Does anyone know - as I will be booking ADRs and will need CC to confirm them, can I use DH's card as I don't have one myself? Will this cause a problem? I am planning on calling through to book my 180+10 (plus Wishes cruise and BBB) and then trying to book additional days one by one on MDE - if possible!

I am worried that on the telephone they won't accept DH's card as security as it's not him making the call? I don't have a CC and don't want to get one. One CC in the family is quite enough :rotfl:.

Failing all that, can I just use my debit card - not ideal, but it's the only way around it I can see....

yes

no

they'll ask you the name of the bearer
i suppose your husband is listed as a guest on your booking anyway. I don't see why they would object

that's an option

we don't have a CC as we don't want one, our ressie is always garanteed on one of our debit mastecards.

they won't charge anything unless you no show and don't cancel in time, so don't worry

Companies should only take payments from credit cards from the cardholder; the company I work for would not allow you to use your husband's credit card on the phone. Sorry but that's the card issuers regulations in this country.

I don't know about policies
the only thing I know is that we guaranteed our ressies with my wife's debit card. She doesn't speak english so obviously I'm the one calling. She doesn't bear the same surname as me. Yet, Disney never objected. :confused3

if might be different when OP calls. In which case the debit card will be an option. (or ask Mr DH to take the phone and say hello it's me, then let the lady take care of the reservation thing :) )

Thanks both. I am going to call WDW later this week and ask them. DH most definitely won't be able to pop onto the telephone when I make ADRs as he'll be at work, and then if I end up having to call back every day for another 8 days as well, for my remaining bookings, it's just impractical.

The more I think about it, the more I don't fancy using my debit card - that then means they have complete access to any money in my account. I know nothing is going to happen, but I don't want to risk it!

Shazzie - I booked our flights on my DSD's CC as I didn't have one and wanted to book on CC for protection - the TA said they would book it (I did it over the phone) but said he had to ring personally that day to confirm everything - which he did. Bit unusual I know!

I said 'should' because I know some companies do, or some agents do in error (and they have at our place even though it can lead to disciplinary:confused3). Don't get me wrong I've used my husbands Credit card on the Internet loads of times and I'm a Compliance Manager :rotfl2: just wanted you to be prepared for a refusal.

They never used to make any charges until the day of the meal, and I'm sure you can choose at the time of the meal how you want to pay but I may be out of date. Of course they charge for 'no shows' now so you'll need to be careful of that.

Can't you book them all online at a time when he is at home eliminating the problem?

He works away, so no. Also, as I am wanting to book things like BOG and CRT, I stand no chance (or little chance) of getting them as I am going at a peak time, unless I book on the day of opening. Apparently MDE isn't working for 180+10 bookings - you have to ring up to book!

I am going to think it over. I really, really don't like the idea of having to get a CC for a holiday to book restaurants - it is truly ridiculous. But, it may be the way I have to go with it. Time is running out though!

Have to say, I am not loving all this planning for our holiday - it is taking the shine off it for me. I am probably in a minority saying this - but I really don't want to be thinking about where I will be in 6.5 months time right now, but with the DDP and ADR bookings looming, this is the way I have to go to try and get what we'd like - or at least stand a chance anyway :headache:.

I've always found the build up to booking ADRs the painful bit; once they're booked you can relax again. :goodvibes I've always been able to book what we've wanted though, even when booking for 12.

I hate to think what I'm going to be like planning and booking fast pass+

Will you be using your DH's credit card once in the resort to charge things from your magic bands? It makes it much easier to do this for tips and drinks in restaurants and shopping around the resort. We found this very easy as you don't have to carrry cash, particularly at water parks. If so once you've registered the card to make ADR's you will be able to use it for room charges too! When I got home I missed not being able to use my magic band in Sainsbury's :lmao:
I've used both our credit cards on previous trips when making phone bookings. Last year I did the majority of ADR's online and found this easier than I expected, they all linked up to my Disney experience and I was able to go in and make changes to times etc later on.
Trying to decide on ADR's 6 months out does seem odd, I remember last year making our FP reservation for a BOG lunch and my DH and DD being most confused that they had to choose what to have for lunch 6 weeks before :rotfl2:
Once you're there, however it's lovely not having to make decisions and knowing that everything's booked, it makes it much more relaxing :thumbsup2
Tyr to enjoy the planning :)

Actually, you have a point - I guess once it is done, it's out of the way - that's a good way to look at it!

Just have the FPs to do then :lmao:!

I hadn't really thought that far tbh. The problem is we are sharing a 2 bed villa with my parents, so I am not sure how a credit card would work for their purchases too? Is it literally linked to your MB rather than your room? If yes, then perhaps we will use DH's card. At the moment I was toying with taking half cash and half travel prepaid card with DH's CC as just a back up really - but it's not finalised yet.

Thanks for the point about you being able to use both your CCs on the telephone - that is positive but I think I'd rather be sure before I book so I think I will ring them. We still have enough time to sort out CCs if I have to go down that route, but I'd rather not!

MDE is not working for 180+10 bookings atm which is why I am asking about the CC on the phone. I am hoping that the additional 8 days can be booked online though!

And yes, you are probably right, once you are there, you don't have to worry about where you have to eat/where you'll get into etc :thumbsup2.

Pretty sure when you call to book ADRs you end up talking to someone in the USA anyway, so UK compliance rules are not an issue. They seem to adopt a much more laissez-faire approach to cards in the States. Strongly suspect you won't have a problem.

Not necessarily a problem with linking a CC when you get there - as long as you don't breach a specified limit ($500-$1500 depending on resort level), your card won't get charged until you check out anyway - you can always go to reception before then and pay off some or all of the bill however you like - I've used our Disney gift card twice like this, and any spare spending money cash left over too. When you leave, anything left over then gets charged to the CC.

BoG will be your only problem reservation - it might be a busy time for people in parks but the restaurants are quieter in July/August than other times. We sat in LTT last summer and they were taking walk ups but no one was coming in! We had lunch in a less than half full restaurant. Normally there are no walk ups and no ADRs left by 10am :thumbsup2

I don't quite remember how it worked last time, but when you have a CC linked to MDX, and you provide the CM with your MDX login identifier, don't you get the option to use the credit card that's on file on your MDX profile, or do you need to give the CC info for the first ADR (the CM will copy it for all subsequent ADR made on the same call) ?

It would be a solution for OP, if her husband could register the CC before the call, but I don't remember if it's an option using the CC that's on file.

next, the major issue we have here is that UK bookings are sometimes gllitchy. Looks like many of those can't do the +10 ressies and need to call
of course, il OP could do them all online, there would be no issue at all using her husband's CC online.

I hadn't really thought that far tbh. The problem is we are sharing a 2 bed villa with my parents, so I am not sure how a credit card would work for their purchases too?

you will get a balance statement (you can request it at any time, just visit your concierge)
on that statement, every transaction will be listed, along with the guest who made that transaction. So it's easy to calculate just how much someone has spent.
And as a previous poster mentionnend, you can go to front desk to settle part of the bill in cash, credit, or gift card, anytime you want to. (your balance will be processed during the night before your checkout day)

Is it literally linked to your MB rather than your room?

it's linked to your room
since you mention a 2 bed, you're at a deluxe, so your limit will be $1500 for the room
IF you happen to exceed that limit, then your CC will be charged for the amount of your balance, and your balance will be reset to $0 with a full $1500 limit. And so on.
So if you don't want your CC to be charged, make sure you don't exceed the $1500 limit and settle your balance (or part of it) before reaching that limit.

MDE is not working for 180+10 bookings atm which is why I am asking about the CC on the phone.

cross fingers, it might actually work when it's your turn :)

Thanks all. We are going to discuss the CC issue at the weekend - we are hiring a car too and as I am doing all the bookings, it makes sense for CC to be in my name - not something I'm keen to get, but we'll discuss.

As for MB, I have actually read about people now being able to link their MBs to their actual spending, so if you are sharing a room/villa, you will only be charged for what you put on your own MB or another elected band if say your spouse is sharing the bill too. I am not sure this is 100% but this is what we will try for to make things easier. I had read, as you say chmurf, that each bill shows items bought by each band anyway, so it would be easy enough to work out. It just means splitting payments.

We have a Disney $200 gift card which we intend to use for tips, then will sort out the balance with cash or CC.

Chmurf that is a thought about pre-registering a CC. We do have a CC on file, it's my Mums as she booked and put deposit on her CC for ease, so I don't want to use that one either!

Sounds like it might not be an issue anyway - I will call them and ask the question I think. But will be later in the week as I am meant (!) to be working!

Elise - I thought CRT sometimes has availability issues too? I might try MDE at 11 am to book, but then if no joy, ring at 12 noon. I am hoping that I can book subsequent day's meals on MDE though, as I said earlier.

I am sure it will all come right in the end:upsidedow.

we are hiring a car too and as I am doing all the bookings, it makes sense for CC to be in my name

for care hire, CC MUST be in the name of the renter/main driver, or they won't release the car to you
you can also use your debit card for the security (granted you provide a round trip itinierary and rent from a company that accepts debit cards)
but many people are not confortable with renting on a debit card.

you can change the CC on file if you need to.
just add a new one and it will replace your Mom's.

Definitely wouldn't use a debit card for car hire - will use DH's card as he is going to be the driver. As I will be booking online, it won't be an issue if he isn't there at the time.
