ADR 'charges' for no-shows

Hi,
I wanted to ask a few questions about credit card charges for no-shows. We are on the DDP and will be making ADR's soon.

Which restaurants require a credit card to book?
How much notice do you need to give if you want to cancel?
How much is the charge per person if you fail to cancel in time?
Is it per adult or per person? We are 3 Disney adults and 2 children.

I don't intend to cancel, but I just wanted to know what would happen if we had to cancel or we were late for our reservation time.

If you have a valid reason, such as illness, or delay/inconvenience that Disney can be blamed on, your front desk CM might waive the no-show fee if you plead your case to him/her

Wow, that's $50 x 14 = $700, which is approximately £440. I assume that they only charge your card if you don't turn up!
I wonder if you would still be charged if you phoned up on the day to get a later reservation. I'm finding it soooooo hard to plan.

the no-show fee is not a hold on your credit card.
Nothing gets charged until you get to the restaurant.
The no-show fee will be processed if you fail to show up at the restaurant after some amount of time past your ADR time.

for same day cancellation I supposed it's up to the CM you'll get on the phone or at your resort hotel. I would assume that same day internet cancellation would induce the no-show charge as it would work on an automated process.
CMs are often very helpful. I once no-showed to a character breakfast because I had been sick all night. By noon the no-show fee was not yet charged. The CM at front desk agreed to waive the fee and should the fee be charged it would be refunded.

So don't worry, lots of guests actually make it to their ADRs

It is only character meals, signature restaurants, fantastic packages and any they would require payment in full on booking (dinner shows and CRT) that require the CC guarantee

Last year I only had to give my CC details for, Hoop de doo.....we were also on the Dining plan and did all our (ADR's except Hoop) online.

I was going to say, you don't need a credit card for most ADR's. Some people just don't have one. I booked 14-15 different ADR's last time and don't have a credit card, none of them asked for one.

I do like the fee for no shows now. It'll stop people double booking so they can choose where to eat, taking up a table they don't intend to use

ive just had to give my card details for nearly every place i have booked!! my worry was that i have put all 6 of my family down which includes an elderly relative and my 3 boys.......my concern is that even though hubby and i will def go to all of them(unless illness or emergency) my boys or mum may get tired and too tired for the evening ones even though the latest one i booked was 7.30 for this very reason.

Im wondering if hubby and i go but not the kids or my mum then will we be charged for the ones who dont come due to being too tired?

I only had to give cc details for character & signature. I didn't book any shows or packages. I understand that I will be charged $10 per person for non arrival.

for our last trip last february-march we had to input our credit card number on every ADR we made.
I see that you're 3 days out of your 180 days window. So I guess you'll soon find out for yourself.

Thanks. I wonder if the same policies apply to people on the DDP. Obviously the 'pay in full' policy would be different.

There seems to be a lot of conflicting / contradictory thoughts on this policy.

Why should there be any difference ?

Being on the DDP does not mean that your meal has been paid for in advance.

DDP gives you meal credits.
Those credits are just another form of currency. It's not US dollars, and it's not Sterling pounds, it's a "credit" (like in those sci-fi movies)
ultimately you'll end up paying for your meal and you'll find that your meal is worth 1 meal credit. But it's not paid for in advance. Actually, even if you are on the DDP you have the option to pay OOP for your meal in order to save a credit to later use at a 2 credits meal restaurant.

Since you end up paying at the end of your meal, and since there is no guarantee that you will use the DDP, there is no reason why there would be separate policies. Obviously, if there were 2 policies, guests would tick the "i will use DDP" when booking, even if they aren't on the DDP, and tell they'll pay OOP once at the restaurant, just to avoid cancellation problems.

So, if I wanted to book an ADR for a pay in full restaurant like CRT, I would have to pay in full for the meal and then get a refund when I arrived and chose to pay with 2 credits? Sorry if I seem stupid but this is all completely new to me.

- tick the "I will use my DDP" and enter your resort confirmation number, granted that DDP is part of your package. You'll still need to input your CC number to cover the booking.

- prepay and if you want to use the DDP once at the restaurant, they will refund your money, either on your CC or through Disney gift cards.

As some guests have pointed out on various forums, it's up to you to calculate if it's cheaper spending 2 TS credits on such a meal, or paying OOP and saving 2 TS meals in order to use them on other days

There have been threads during the past few weeks on the dining plan board where people have said that they have not been charged for partial parties. Here's one person's experience (see post #4):

We had a booking for Crystal Palace in October...we had an early breakfast but my sisters son had an acident so we were 3 people short, we just told them at the podium and they were fine. We were on the dining plan.

I think the cc reservation charge for no shows is a welcome thing. I have read posts where people have reserved 3 separate times for a lunch sitting because they are unsure what time exactly they are going to want to eat ! And they are doing this at the 'hard to get' resturaunts. I think Disney has caught onto this especialy as there are far more people using dining plans.

I agree. I think it makes the whole system fairer. I'm definitely not trying to play the system or gripe about it.
