ADR and split table party seating?

I had an ADR at Hollywood and Vine, and called to change it to a later time for our party of five. She was able to do it, but she said she would have to put us at a table for 2 and they would attempt to put the other table of 3 as close to us as possible. She sugguested it, so it must be common to. I imagine the kids would enjoy a table to themselves, since this a buffet thing, I think it would work out okay. Just wondered if anyone did this?

This happens to us a lot as we normally travel with 7 to 8 of us. The servers have been more than happy to combine the checks and so far we haven't had any problems and have been seated very close together.
