My best friend invited me to the adoption hearing this week (she is adopting two foster children that she has had in her home). Anyways, I have never been to one, and am wondering should I bring a gift of some sort, or a card?? She is having a party at her house after the hearing, but I cannot attend since I have another commitment. I don't want to show up empty-handed if other family members/friends come bearing gifts... What should I do? :) :)

I think a gift is appropriate but not required. I suppose it is similar to an addition by birth. Depending upon the ages of the children, I would probably get them something small that they would like and a Congrats card for the parents. Another thought is to give a savings bond. There are definitely 'Congratulations on your adoption' cards in the Hallmarks but probably not in your grocery store's card section, ya know?

maybe you could find a nice frame & take some pix of them at the hearing. Then frame the photo you took.

Sending a card to the parents would be great too.

I just went to an adoption party last weekend. I went to Kohls. They had buy one get one free on photo albums. So for mom and dad two photo albums (one said family on cover) & got the two girls each stuffed snoop and snoop book. I thought gifts were appropriate.
