adopting a pound puppy question

We are in the process of looking for a new puppy, our beloved dog died 2 months ago at age 14. I've been searching on petfinders.com.

Does anyone have any experience in adopting from foster homes? I inquired about 2 different puppies, one had a lot of requests already and on another site, all the dogs had already been adopted.

Some of the puppies were being fostered in Tennessee, (i'm in CT) and would be driven here if adopted.

I foster dogs sometimes through a rescue group. Sometimes people will foster(take them to another place) if the shelters are full. Good luck and I commend you for rescueing a homeless pup.

I adopted my pound puppy from the actual pound! Have you tried there. I'm still in shock someone abandoned a cocker spaniel. He wasn't an actual puppy, but the vet guessed he was about 2. I haven't adopted from a foster home though.

BTW, My pound doggy cost me $50, and after I had him neutered the State of CT sent me $50. Great deal! Best dog!

We've adopted 2 of our 3 from the pound. The lastest addition is a Bichon from a close by pound, because I was looking for a pure-bred it took some time to find one locally. petfinder is great, you can even set it up to email you if one become available in your area.

I think one of the differences is that from a pound there maybe more medical issues, usually in foster care they can tell you the temperment and the dogs have been checked by a vet and will be current on their shots etc. Cost wise you come out about the same, I've spent more than most of the adoption fees at the vet with my pound puppies.
