Looking to learn more about Photoshop.

Boy are the classes expensive. I can do a LITTLE with Photoshop, but would really like to learn all there is to know about it. Has anyone taken online classes? I am just not sure which one to take. Don't want to spend money and get ripped off by an online course that is useless.

Our community college offers basics for Photoshop but with a still pricey price tag.

Any help would be appreciated.

My DH is very into PS. If you have a good library system, try requesting books. Many of them have cds with lessons on them. You're not risking any money either. He also has a series of cd lessons that he bought. But try free first.

Used books are another option to save $$$. Amazon lists good used copies of Adobe's Classroom in a Book (CS4) for about $10. CS5 may be too new, used copies only save a few $ over a new one.

The Classroom in a Book is a good step-by-step way to learn PS if you do well learning from a book.

Try a month of KelbyTraining.com. I think it's only $25 and you can watch lots of different classes on photography and Photoshop.

Check your local community college. The Photography 101 class usually includes a good amount of Photoshop lab time -- at least the ones in Virginia do. (I was all set to take the course this semester, but the day before the first class, they cancelled the only session that worked for my schedule. At least it got me the software at the student rate (big savings!) and a good book on the topic.)

I second Classroom in a Book. It has step by step tutorials for the exercises. If you're diligent and follow them you will learn Photoshop. It's the text that many Photoshop classes use.

Thanks for the lead on this! I just signed up for a year.

If anyone else is thinking about doing this, be sure to Google for coupon codes. There's an active one for $20 off the one year subscription, so it brings the cost down to $179.

Thanks for all the great ideas. Will check them all out.

Our community college is about $250.00 per class. Really didn't want to spend that much. But I will keep looking.

THANKS

No! Don't spend $250 on one class. No need to spend that much money. As I mentioned, I'm happy with Kelby Training. They give out free memberships every day in the morning, and a one month subscription is a tenth of the college course, but you get access to EVERYTHING in their catalog while subscribed.

lynda.com
is very popular but I dont remember the prices of the dvds
but their learning is parallel to learning a language from Rosetta stone,
Its very down to earth, informational, easy to follow.

I second, third, fourth and fifth Kelby Training. I have been a member for three years and find it amazing!

Where do they give away free memberships?

Also, if you are trying to figure out how to do a specific effect, there are lots of videos on You Tube showing you how to do it.

It's actually a free 24-hour test drive membership. They give away 75 of them every morning. It's on the main page -- look for the race car.

I have been using LYNDA.COM for a while. It is $25 for a month and $250 for a year. You will find all levels of training for Photoshop and many, many more programs. You can also find a number of photography classes there. You will find all the training could possibly want at that site.
