My DD12 is scheduled to have her adenoids taken out this Friday. She's never had surgery before, never been put under, and I'm kind of freaking out about it. (DD is okay with it; she actually seems to be looking forward to it.)

Does anyone have any experience with this surgery? What was the recovery time? Has the surgery lessened your sinus problems in the long run, are you glad you went through with it?

Thanks for any info!

My 4 year old niece just had this surgery last week. The surgery itself took about 20 minutes. My sister said she could tell my niece was able to breath better in the recovery room. Abby (my niece) was up and playing when they got home. My sister had even gone out and stocked up on jello, Popsicles, ice cream etc and you know what my niece was eating that night. Popcorn?! She did great and my sister said Abby is behaving and sleeping better, she's glad she did it. Good luck!!!

dd1 had it when she was five. She was on her 3rd set of eartubes. She had tonsils and adenoids done together. Easy recovery, much faster than I expected. Also, she'd had breathing problems that affected her sleep and appetite for many years, so within a few weeks she was looking so much better. Her color was better, and she gained some weight, she just looked so much healthier.

My DS11 had sinus & adenoid surgery done about 2yrs ago after suffering months & months of near-constant sinus infections. He is autistic and severely mentally ********, so there is no "preparing him" for it. We just showed up and let them take him away  I was a mess, but Christian did just fine.

Once he got the anesthesia out of his system he was fine. His nose was sore for a few days, but he stopped snoring within a couple weeks and he could breathe better within a couple days :thumbsup2 AND the best part is, it has nearly ended his sinus infections and strep throat :cheer2:

I'd do it again in a second. Except for more sedatives...for me

DD15 had her adenoids removed when she was about 11 or 12. She didn't have any problems with recovery. The surgery didn't take long, either. She was a mouth-breather and the orthodontist recommended the surgery to help with the correction of her teeth. She can breathe much better through her nose now. She used to snore like crazy, but not so much anymore.

Our 7 year old son had the adnoids and tonsils out together. Agreed about a 20 minute surgery and was a blessing in the long run. He had a reaction to the anesthetic though and was kept overnight at the hospital for observation. Chicken nuggets were off limits for 2 weeks, it wasn't 2 nights for him.
