Addressing an Envelope for Military Personnel

If I am addressing an envelope to COL James Smith and his wife, Janet, I would address it as COL and Mrs. James Smith; what if it was COL Janet Smith and her husband, James, would I address it as COL and Mr. Janet Smith?

No. You would address is Col. Janet Smith and Mr. Smith.

For real!, why not! DH is a Lt. Col so I imagined that it was me and was LTC and Mr. "my name" "our last name" and fell over laughing!
