Additional nights in 1 bedroom or stay in 2?

We are heading for our first trip home and have made flight arrangements. I currently have reservations for a 2 bedroom BW view for 7 nights. However, because we could save so much by flying in a day earlier we will need to add on an expensive Friday night. There are 4 of us - 2 adults and 2 teens.

Should I change our 2 bedroom to a 1 bedroom to get additional nights so we don't have to change rooms (I know I won't be able to get boardwalk view at this point as it is the last week in March). Would a 1 bedroom be large enough?

Or, should we stay at a different resort for the first two nights (Friday and Saturday) so we won't have to borrow from next year's points.

I don't like the idea of moving but 150 points is a lot. I feel we may waste a whole day by moving though. If codes come out we could possibly stay at the Wilderness Lodge or a moderate. Any thoughts would be appreciated! Thanks :D

I never use the living room as a place to sleep. Your two teens will be a lot more comfortable sleeping in seperate beds and having their own bed and bath rooms. I really don't understand how people ever use the living room as a place to sleep. You seem to know all the options that you have. I would rent somewhere else for cash and stay in the two bedroom for the rest of the trip. If you have a car there are some nice condos off site that you can stay at for a reasonable price.

We always stay the first Friday night at an inexpensive hotel. We normally get a great rate on priceline. We fly in to MCO on Friday stay at the hotel then start our Disney vacation Saturday am. This saves us the expensive points and we get to check in nice and early and get a great first day.

One other thing I have been a membaer since 95 and only used points to stay on Fri or Saturday once. I was real desperate when I did it. I just can not see paying that much more for the same place. I usually stay at the Hilton which I find very nice on the higher point nights.

We're new to this and haven't been "home" yet...but I'd stay offsite for those two extra nights.

If you want the Disney property feel, you could try the Swan/Dolphin...or a Downtown Disney area hotel.

How about the Universal hotels? Are your teens interested in going to those parks at all? I know we will stay there someday to take advantage of the front of the line access.

I love to try new hotels...so weekend nights might even be the time for us to try a priceline bid on a "mystery" hotel. :) You should be able to get a good deal during the last week of March.

Good luck!

Since you only need one additional night, I would stay somehwhere else on-site for that night and pack one small bag with the things you will need that first day. Then when you have Disney move your stuff to your DVC home, you only have one bag to repack. If you have a car, this will be even easier. I guess I can't figure out if you need the Friday at the beginning or end of the trip. Are you currently booked for Saturday to Saturday?

Since you're flying in a day earlier, I'm assuming you need to book that first night somewhere. (Friday night).

Since Friday is a travel day you probably just need somewhere to sleep and then you can go immediately Saturday morning and check in at BWV. (Probably won't get the room right away, but can check-in and then head to one of the parks if you want)

Have you thought about a Value Resort? Go to All-Stars or Pop Century for that Friday night. Then when you check into that 2-B/R boardwalk view, your teens will really, really, really, really, really appreciate DVC. :p

And so will you.:teeth:

As long as the two teens are same sex, you would be fairly comfortable in a 1BR. We stayed in a 1BR with 2 grandkids. I wouldn't have wanted to do it for much more than a week, but we really didn't spend much time in the room anyway. And the savings in points was worth it. Our thought was that if we weren't DVC members, we'd be staying in a regular hotel room with two beds and sharing a bath. At least this way, we had 2 TVs, lots more space than a hotel room, and our own bedroom with a king-sized bed.

Not sure if enough room or if you want to but maybe you can get an aerobed in the LR for one of the teens and the other on the sofabed

thanks
