Additional Driver Charge at Thrifty?

We are looking at renting a minivan from Thrifty and their web-site states that there will be an additional driver fee for spouses. However, when searching this forum, several people reported that they were not charged for the extra driver when they showed up at the desk. I was just wondering if anyone had a recent experience with Thrifty where they were or weren't charged for an additional driver. Thanks for any info.

Maybe they weren't charged because they didn't tell them about the additional driver. Or maybe they declared the additional driver when they booked on-line but when they got there the additional driver was not listed as it should have been.

For your own protection make sure that the rental car contract that you sign lists any additional drivers, whether they charge you or not. That's the only contract that counts should you get involved in an accident. That is the only way you can guarantee that your own personal insurance will cover "driving a non-owned auto with the permission of the owner".

When we rented from Thrifty in 2005 we were charged for the extra driver

I see Dollar charges fro an additional driver as well. We are mostly using this car jsut to get to and from the airport, so I will just have my DH do all the driving. So we won't even add me on.
