Adding to my disney experience?

So I obviously have a long time before our trip (Dec) but I was playing around on the site with my Disney experience and when can I add things to my itinerary? I know I can't do dinning till 180 days out and FP+ 60 days out but you can add parks and things you want to see on which days. I tried to click on my first day and add a park but it ended up putting the day that it actually was and not my actual trip days. Even though I clicked on Dec 7th. Is it just to far out? Can you not add things to your days until the day of? That seems dumb if you can't.

The calendar is very strange. You either need to go into that day and then edit plans OR you need to go to the calendar at the top and select the correct day first. I don't recall if I had to wait until 180 days to add an itinerary but it did allow me to add favorites and to put in parks about 6 months out. I didn't try it any earlier than that. For some reason the date keeps reverting to today's date so you have to constantly check that it is adding the day you really want. It's a strange set up
