What are the rules about this?

We have a split stay at POFQ and BLT. BLT has been booked on rented DVC points.

Since I am not the DVC owner, am I allowed to pay for the DDP?

Do I need tickets (Not sure if this has changed)?

If I'm allowed to pay to add DDP, when must I do this and do I arrange it through the person I'm renting from? And when do I need to do this? Is it +72 hours out from check in like it is with a package?

This is all new to me. Any help and information is appreciated.

You can have the owner add the DDP at the latest, 48 hours before arrival. No tickets needed. Owners typically require payment in full at the time of the addition.

Thanks for that info.

I have managed to speak with the person I'm renting from who wasn't aware of some recent changes to the policy. It looks like the card that is used to pay for adding the DDP has to be the same card as is registered to my account, so it needs to be my card. She is happy to make the payment and I pay her the money (I'm renting from someone I know so there's no trust issue - we are just trying to be sensible and responsible about how we do this). I have a card linked to that reservation on MDE already which I need anyway to make my ADRs, but does that have to be the same card she uses to make the payment? It looks very complicated. I would never do this renting from a stranger!

I've never experienced that it needs to be the same card at all. Once it's paid, it's paid.

She rang DVC to ask and it looks like you're right - can be any card, but has to be one registered to me as the guest. We've tried putting in the details to pay it online but it's not processing it so I don't know what else to do except scrap the whole idea.

It's a strange way to do it. You'd think anyone could pay as long as you go through an adequate security process rather than handing over card details and security codes to someone else. I know the person I'm renting from but what do you do if it's someone you've never met? Here are my credit card details and everything you need to be able to charge to it ....? :faint:

Thank you for your help though. I appreciate you taking the time. :goodvibes

You must add the plan through Member Services, and Member Services will not deal with anyone who is not an actual member.

Some guests buy a gift card, give the owner the gift card number, and pay it that way. Still risk in this but it doesn't entail giving someone else access to your credit card account. Just remember to keep the gift card, because if you decide you don't want the plan after all, the money will be refunded to that card.

You can also pay by disney gift card I think.... I don't know if that will help you at all.

Rachel, yes, (and thanks to makira marlena too) it does help, a lot. It is a lesson learned to late perhaps, but a very good one.

I just passed my card details over because the person I'm renting from is a friend. The charge was requested twice so the funds have been placed in holding for 21 working days by the bank. A call by the member to DVC has confirmed that they have no record of the payment, even though I can see it on my statement. I obviously can't speak to DVC and can't exactly tell the bank that someone else was instructed to use my card as this violates the terms. So not a train wreck, but that's the DDP for two of us charged twice but not added.

However, the gift card suggestion helps a lot. Is it just the regular cards like the ones you buy at the shops at WDW? Because our DVC points stay is the second resort on our trip so I have 10 days there before we check in and could buy the card there and give the details to the member to add it then.

I should have mentioned because I'm not in the USA I can't have a gift card shipped.

Do you see any flaws in this plan? All the advice on here has been helpful and I'm very grateful to you all.

Yes, it's the regular ones that you can buy in the shops. What you could do is sign up for borderlinx.com and have the gift card posted to you here in the uk. Bit of a faff but might help with paying for the plan. Basically they give you a us mailbox for you to have things shipped to and then they post the items on to you.

Once you get the card, the dvc member can just phone up member services and pay with that. you have until 48 hours before check into add on the dining plan so that would give you time to receive the card. Just logged into dvc member to check.

Hope you manage to get something sorted.

Rachel :)

Along a similar line… I am renting from a DVC owner for a stay at BWV. I had planned on paying for food using my Disney VISA rewards points. THese credit card rewards are posted to a separate card that has a different number from my credit card. Do you think the DVC owner would be able to use my rewards number to book the dining plan? Right now, he has booked the room and I have paid him via paypal. (honestly I am still going through the math to see if this is affordable for us but don't want to continue crunching if you guys don't think this'd be possible…)

I haven't heard anything like this on the DVC boards. I have a strong feeling your friend misunderstood or it was mis-explained.
