Adding resale to direct?

I purchased direct at riviera last year (enough to get the discounts) and now considering adding points.

How would adding a resale contract work exactly? I realize that the resale points can only be used at Riviera but that doesn’t bother me as we love this place.

If I find a resale contract with the same use year am I able to book my next stay online as if all points are combined or do I need to make two separate reservations?

Assuming that the contract you purchase has Riviera as a home resort and the same use year as your direct Riviera contract, then yes, at 11 months you will be able to book online using both contracts.

If you get a different use year, you will have two memberships. Booking is more cumbersome, even if both contracts have Riviera as a home resort.

If you get a different home resort with the same use year, you will be able to use them both online at 7 months. Home Rsort booking priority attaches to the points, not the membership or the owner. In this case, only the direct purchase can book Riviera at 11 months and you must wait until the 7 month window opens to use the other points - but of course, your resale points will not be valid to book at Riviera.

Yes I forgot to mention my direct points are with Riviera.

I would put in some low offers. Resale RIV is not exactly a hot ticket right now, and you only need one. And it's not getting bought back.

The brokers list resale contracts for sale with an offering price - everything is negotiable with resale. Here's a link to the Riviera contracts listed for sale by our Board sponsor:

To me, Riviera points resale are worth significantly less because of the restrictions. Be prepared for a lot of nos. How many points are you considering?

I have 375 direct. Thinking about another 150 to be able to get a 2 bedroom villa for a week without too many calendar restrictions.

That 450 point sweet spot is a nice plateau to reach and rest on for a bit.

Agree. And having ~1/3rd of points (150ish) via resale is a decent spot, even if Riviera falls out of favor with the OP--they just need to use the points every 3rd year or so and can spend their direct contract at other resorts at 7mo most years.
