I'm new to DVC and currently waiting for Disney to waive ROFR on a couple of contracts.
How does it work if I want to transfer someone else's points into my account? These point might come from an online rental service, or directly from another DVC owner.
Can the points be banked, if they are the current UY? I believe the points maintain their original home resort - is that correct? SSR points stay SSR even if the were put a BWV account?

From what I understand, according to the DVC rules, you cannot offer or receive compensation for transfered points.

That being said, don't put up any posts (here on Dis) of paying for transfers, and when replying to a post offering a transfer, don't post about paying for it. You can have a private discussion with the person wishing to transfer to you (or you them) and whatever you discuss is between the two of you.:thumbsup2

Transferred points retain all their original info (UY, resort, etc.) and if they are not of the same resort that you own, AND UY, they won't appear in your account, and you have to call MS to make reservations using them. It will all become clear when you visit the member website once you own (hopefully clear, that is). You are even given a long write out of how to manage your ownership, and transferred points is part of that information.... and it does say that you may not pay or be paid for transfers, as compensation.

Ok that's all good. I have friend with Dvc points that may transfer me their unusable points. What's the rules for use?

Transferred points retain their home resort and use year. They can be banked but not borrowed. You are limited to one transfer in or out per membership per UY. Transfers must be transferred in or out to the same year. So you cannot transfer in 2013 points into your 2012 UY. Transferred points belong to you once they are transferred in. They no longer belong to you if they are transferred out.

You cannot add "rented" points to your points. "Rented" points belong to the owner of the points and any reservation made with them belong to the owner of the points.

If you have points transferred in and then bank them do they bank to your use year or do they stay with the origional use year? Example. I have a feb use year and I transfer in points from October use year. If I bank these do they stay October or do they become February
Thanks for any info

Transferred points retain their home resort and UY. So if you have a Feb UY and you transfer in Oct UY points, they stay Oct UY until you use them or lose them from lack of usage.

You are currently in a Feb 2013 UY. You would have to transfer Oct 2013 UY points into your contract. You could not use them before Oct 1, 2013 because they could not be borrowed. You can't transfer Oct 2012 points into your Feb 2013 contract. Since you are already past your Feb 2012 UY, you would need 2013 UY points.

Transferred points will retain their original Home Resort status and Use Year. If you have points from an October UY transferred into your account, they will remain October points. In addition, they will typically not show up in your online account - you will need to call or write MS in order to use those points to make a reservation.
