Adding on same resort, different memberships. Clarifying process.

Hi all,

After more than 20 years as BWV owners, I added on a 150 point contract at VGF this spring. Original plan was to use for shorter long weekend trips, or for a split stay of a few days before a longer BWV week. I had my first VGF Resort Studio stay in October and really enjoyed it. Given the current VGF points promotion I’m thinking of adding another 100 point contract to get the discount, to allow for longer stays at VGF as well.

My question:
I bought the VGF points in a new membership because I added our grown son onto those points, so that he could get Direct. If I were to buy another 100 points I’d probably put that purchase into my original membership (my name only) that holds our BWV points. I have found that using points from two different memberships is kind of a pain, and not easy to combine etc.

So assuming I have 150 VGF points in Membership #1 and 100 VGF points in Membership #2 (all the same use year), how would it work if I wanted to use all my VGF points for a longer booking at VGF. Would I book rooms with both of them separately and could reservations then be combined, or if they can not be combined could I simply request not to move rooms?

Obviously need to make this decision this week with the December 4th promo deadline. Appreciate any thoughts!

You could book them as two reservations and then ask MS to put a "continuing stay" notation on both reservations. That will generally keep you in the same room, but it's best to confirm at the front desk when you check in for the first reservation, so they can make changes if rooms weren't assigned that way. They want you to stay in the same room, too, to save on housekeeping.

The alternative would be to call MS before booking and have them transfer the needed number of points from Membership #2 to Membership #1. Then you could combine them to book one reservation from the get-go.

Ah, the transferring is a good idea. If I were to do that on occasion, and had to cancel or modify that reservation at any point, I assume those points just stay in the Membership # that I moved them into (ie #1 in your example above)?

Correct..they stay where you moved them to

I would talk to your local estate attorney, if you plan to hold all of this and pass it down. And I'd have a serious conversation about this with your son about whether he wants to inherit this. The way I would do this would be to put them both in a trust or LLC, or just put it all in your son's name now.

Two member numbers are like two people booking. You can see them both in your dashboard, but you can't combine points or reservations. You can request not to move rooms, I've done it several times. It should work, because they don't want to pay to clean your room, but it doesn't have to happen. It could be problematic in places with a lot of booking categories or lock-offs, which would certainly include VGF.

If you talk to a guide and get a concrete plan together, they will give you a few days to work out legal logistics.
