We are thinking of adding on 40 to 50 points and my question is this. Does your current use year play into any add on? Do you try and get the same use year or spread it out? What are the advantages of having two use years 6 mounths apart versus the same use year. Our current use year is June and we are stuck on this question palying devils advocate each way. How have others here handled this?...smjj

If you add on through Disney, the only thing they will give you is your current use year except upon request they will give you a new one if you buy the full contract minimum that new purchasers buy, currently 160 points.

There is really no particular advantage to having different use years.

Unless you purchase a resale contract or a new contract of 160 points (or more) thru Disney, you will have the same Use Year for an add-on. By definition, an add-on will have the same Use Year as the master contract it is attached to.

Unless you have a reason where you truly want another Use Year, I wouldn't worry about changing it. Basically, Use Year is simply the month when your points are renewed each year. It could be important if you would need to cancel reservations - especially on short notice - but otherwise should be of minimal concern.

Good luck with your decision! :)

I had a similar question and decided against purchasing a different UY. Folks on the board indicated that different UYs require different member numbers and is not treated as one pool of points through MS. So for instance, let's say you had 15 points on 1 account and 15 on another and a reservation required 30 points, you'd have to transfer from one account to the other. You are only allowed 1 transfer per year, which could get kind of tricky. Even if you had enough points in each account to book the days, if you split the days across accounts, say you wanted to book a 7 night stay covering 4 nights with 1 account and the other 3 days with the other account, it's not considered 1 reservation. You could potentially have to move if staying in the same resort.

I don't know how likely these glitches happen, but for me, it was enough to stay with the same UY even though I preferred a different one.

Your concerns mirrored mine. My wife aggress with the previous posters in that it does not make that much of a difference. Thanks to all for the replies..smjj
