Hi all! I'm sure this has been asked a million times before but...I have a 2 bedroom villa booked in January at AKV for my family and my SIL, niece and nephew. Currently there are 6 of us on the reservation but my brother just told me he's thinking of coming too. Is this an issue since the villa holds 9? Do I just call MS to add him on? Thanks!

Yes, you can do this by calling MS, having a chat with MS, or e-mailing them from the website.

I've done that in the past. I typically book at 11 or 7 months for just myself and then when friends confirm they are coming, I e-mail member services to add them.

Sorry to sort of hijack the thread...

I have an upcoming week-long reservation for myself and my two kids for SSR that also includes the dining plan. My wife just told that she will be able to join us, but only for the second half of the week. I want to add her to the reservation so that she can utilize Disney's Magical Express bus service from the airport to SSR. When I add her to the reservation, will I be forced into purchasing the dining plan for her as well? If I have to purchase the dining plan, would it be retroactive for the whole week or just for the days that she will be a part of the reservation (i.e. do I have to buy it for the full 7 days of the whole reservation or just the 3 days that she will be there for)? I don't really want to as she is not big eater, and it would be a waste of money.

Thanks,

Evan

You would have to add her for the whole week. Which would be unreasonable financially as you've described. Your better option would be to cancel the dining plan for everyone, buy a TIW card, and utilize that discount for whomever happens to be present at those meals. It almost certainly will put you out financially ahead of the dining plan, and also adds the flexibility to eat only what you want.

Unless you are a person who usually eats dessert with every meal plus a snack every day, the Disney dining plan is actually a prescription for overeating, rather than a vehicle for savings. Especially in your circumstance where one room occupant won't get there for part of the week, it will be much better to go the TIW route.

in addition to the TIW option, you can use her extra credits for a few nice signature dining experiences that use 2 credits each :)

Thanks for the comments. My plan was to just add her the day before she arrives, just so she could use DME. Would they charge me for the dining plan for the full 7 days even though they know that she is only there for three of them?

Thanks again.

The dining plan is all-or-nothing. If you add her within 48 hours of check-in, she won't be added to the dining plan. I'm not sure how much advanced notice you need for DME.

That's what confuses me. I know that if one person in the reservation party does the dining plan, then everyone in the reservation party must do the dining plan. But, if I add my wife to the reservation after we check-in (because she will be arriving 3-4 days after us), then how does that work with the dining plan? Will they make me pay for her like she was on the reservation for the full week or just the 3 or so days that she will actually be there.

Or, I could just call them and find out! :scratchin

I wouldn't call. Please don't call. This is a little bit of a loophole. You cannot add the dining plan to anyone with less than 48 hours notice. So, if you add her after that time, she won't have to be included for the dining plan. But, I don't know how it affects other aspects, such as FP+ and DME.

For other resorts, if you add them once you're there you do NOT have to have the dining plan for those people. I cannot imagine it would work differently for DVC. If I were in your shoes I would just add her after you get there, and I would have zero expectation that they would then want me to pay for that person's dining plan.
