Adding friends on MDE

In the past I was able to add friends with just their email address, to MDE. However, right now I am trying to add a friend and the only way it seems I can do it is by entering their resort reservation information.

What am I doing wrong? Or is this the new process?

The login service is down right now, but there should be 3 options when you select 'Add a Guest' from the MDE website. The 3rd option should be add by name and this option would also allow you to enter the email to connect with the other persons Disney Account.
