Can I add the dining plan at check in? At the moment, I have a resort only reservation due to the fact that my father has been having medical issues and I may need to cancel at the last minute. Can I add the dining plan when I arrive if my plans don't change?

Pretty sure it must be on the ressie before arrival. Someone here will know precisely, but I think it must be on there 48-72 hours before arrival....

Calling an expert...

I know that you definitely cannot add the DDP upon arrival. I'm 99% certain you have to add it at least 72 hours before (or 48 hours before for DVC.)

The DDP must be added no later than 72 hours before arrival or 48 hours if you're DVC.

In addition you cannot add it to a resort room only reservation. It has to be a package: room + tickets + DDP and if you're within 45 days of arrival the full amount would be due when you book it. However, you can book a ticketless package (room + DDP) if you have an AP, military tickets or are a DVC member staying on points.

purple figment is correct. If you have a plain old room only reservation (not AP, not military, not DVC), not only can you not add DDP at check in, you will need to cancel your room only and book a package, including at least a 1 day ticket to be able to have the DDP. If you do that, you will be refunded whatever you've paid towards your room and you will have to pay for the package in full at the time your are booking it, assuming you are closer than 45 days to check in. Good luck!

However, you can book a ticketless package (room + DDP) if you have an AP, military tickets or are a DVC member staying on points.

The DVC reservation is not a package. It is the only type of reservation where a guest can add a DDP without booking a package. However, they still can't add it at check-in.

The DVC reservation system is completely separate from CRO and has its own rules regarding reservations.

it sounds as though the OP has a room-only reservation through CRO because they want the more lenient cancellation policies that go along with a room-only reservation. They should be aware that once they add the dining plan, the reservation becomes a package and the package cancellation rules apply (same rules apply to the ticketless packages offered to annual passholders and military). On this type of reservation, no changes to a package can be made past 72 hours prior to arrival. The previous poster is correct that if the reservation is changed to a package within 45 days of arrival the full payment would be due at the time the change is made.

Thanks everyone for your help. I think I will just leave it as a room only and scale back my table service meals since they will be out of pocket. I'm just glad to be going; been a long, hard year.

Have a great week everyone
