Okay, I was under the impression that I could add the DDP to my discounted room only reservation without losing my discount.

I am currently on the phone with a CM who is telling me that I cannot add the DDP without losing my discount. She is currently looking to see if she can find some other discount for this. But I think she is incorrect.

Need help! I feel like she doesn't know what she is doing!

She is shopping for a package for me. Trying to find a new package for me??????

Okay - so I just got off the phone with that CM and did not make any changes to the reservation. Essentially she is saying that if I add the DDP she has to cancel my current reservation and make a new package reservation for me. Then she looked and said that there was no availability for my dates at AKL, so if she canceled my current room, she would not be able to book me a package at AKL.

So I said - I just want to make sure I have this straight - you are saying that I cannot add a dining plan. She said - No you cannot.

There is no way this is correct, right? I cannot believe that Disney doesn't want my money for adding the DDP.

Someone help me out here.

You're going from a RO reservation to a package reservation. She is correct.

Not really sure why she can't cancel your room only and book you a package for the same dates, though.

The CM is correct. You can't change from room-only reservation to a package reservation-with-dining unless Disney re-books your stay as a completely new reservation. Per package reservation rules, you would also have to purchase at least 1-day tickets for each person on your reservation when you added paid dining. Also, there would have to be availability open for the new booking. Apparently there is no availability.

Sorry you didn't know this.

I don't think that's the case any longer. Disney does now offer "ticketless" packages for the room + dining, but it has to be booked at rack rate...no discounts.

Call back and ask to speak to someone in guest services. It's not as easy as just adding the DDP to a RO reservation as a room + DDP is a package and since RO and packages are different reservation systems, money paid toward one cannot be applied to the other (which is why you must cancel/rebook when changing reservation types). If your resort/room type is no longer available under the discount, you will lose that discount once your RO is cancelled (if you do this through CRO) as CRO does not have the ability to cancel/rebook and keep the room discount if there's no longer availability. However, guest services has the ability to make the change, allowing you to keep the room discount. Keep in mind that you will need to pay a new deposit of $200 and wait for a refund on the RO as the money you paid on your RO reservation cannot be applied toward the package.

A room discount can be applied to a ticketless package. The discount would be applied to the room portion only, but can be done regardless of whether or not the package included tickets.

Is this the case if there is no availability for the resort and room type I currently have?

Has this changed? My sister and her family are AP holders, and they were not able to apply a room discount with a ticketless package on our trip last year.

Also, a quick search revealed this...

Yes, guest services has the ability to make that change without losing the discount. CRO only has the ability to cancel and rebook something that has availability, which is why you would lose the discount if you made the change. Call back and ask to speak with guest services and they should be able to help.

Room discounts can be applied to packages (room portion only), so I'm not sure why your sister was told it couldn't be done. This is just a guess, but maybe the CM didn't know that a discount could be applied or there was no availability under the discount for the resort/room type she had booked. If there was availability for what she wanted, she should have been able to get the discount.

Not sure why that article states no discount, but it is from 2014 when Disney was testing the GP ticketless package, so maybe in the testing phase it was just rack rate (but I can't say for sure).

Thank you mickeynut1. YOU ROCK!!!!:thanks::thanks::thanks:

I called again and asked to speak with Guest Services. I was instead transferred to a CM with more experience, who was able to get this done for me. He had to work with guest services to do it, but he got it done. I was able to keep my discount and room type, while adding the DDP.:cool1:
