Adding/canceling a person

The summer 2025 cruises will come out soon and I would like to use my placeholder and book one of those cruises.

However I don’t know yet if I will be traveling solo or with someone else.

In the past I once booked a cruise for myself and several months later I wanted to add a person. However the price was so much more expensive by then.

So I was wondering if I should book for 2 people and if I end up traveling solo, I will just cancel that second person before the penalties begin. Is this the way to keep the original fare?

Honestly I have the impression nowadays it’s better to just book GTY’s. But I still want to make use of my placeholder just in case there will be no GTY for that particular cruise.

If you use your placeholder for you and add another person, then yes, you can cancel that person at no cost before the final payment date. You will keep your original fare plus a single supplement (so you will owe about the same amount as for 2 people, except for the port fees for the 2nd person).

You are correct that if you book just for you and add a 2nd person later, the cost may go up.

Booking a GTY is great if you are sure you will take the cruise and won’t want to make any changes.

I have booked 2 people for a cruise in October but not sure my friend will be able to come. If she can’t, Disney will refund tax and port charges for her. I was told I can bring someone else (change the name of 2nd guest) for free up until early Sept (a little more than 2 months in advance). In this case, since Solo costs almost the same as two guests, you are better off booking for two up front.

EDIT: I think to change a guest name after the cut off (the Sept date in my case) was going to cost $50.
