Adding an extra person to the room?

Our room holds 6 people, but we only have 5 booked to stay. If we add another person, who is not an adult, are we required to inform the hotel?? Has anyone done this before? We have an unexpected last minute guest joining us & I'm worried about this being frowned upon.

This topic came up recently on the boards. Are your sure your room allows six people? Most do not due to fire codes, but if you have a suite, the maximum capacity may be different. If there is a surcharge for adding a sixth person, then you should definitely tell the hotel. If there is not a surcharge, and six are allowed, then there should be no reason not to tell the hotel.

I agree with sonnyjane - either way, whether there is an extra charge or not, tell the hotel about the 6th person so they can get that person's name in the system or at least get it on your record.

If you've actually seen in the fine print of your reservation somewhere that the room/mini-suite can accommodate 6 people, or that there's a 6-person maximum (many rooms still have a 5-person maximum even if there are 2 queen beds and a sofa bed), then there's no reason to not tell the hotel. It shouldn't be a problem for the reservations desk to add in the 6th person to your booking.

The was a huge discussion and the OP I think decided he was not going to tell the hotel. Be sure it says 6.

Now that I looked again, I believe it says 5. It's the BWPPI. So, there's actually room for 6 people to sleep, but it states the room accomodates only 5.

In that case, fair warning that this is where the debates can really get heated :) Knowing that information, it is not advised that you add the sixth person. There's not much more we can say other than you shouldn't violate the hotel's policy. It might be worth asking if you can pay extra for a sixth person.

Oh, I wouldn't do that. I don't want to spend the entire week worrying about getting in caught! I am going to call the hotel.

Yay!! It's all good. They said no problem. They don't charge by the number of people, rather by the size of the room & the room sleeps 6. That's a relief!
