I would like to add 1 more person to my already existing ADR at Via Napoli. Current ADR is for this coming Saturday at 2:00 p.m. for 6 people.

I called Disney Dining and was advised they do not have availability for 1 more person and that I can keep checking back periodically to see if something comes up.

Should I just show up at Via Napoli with my extra person and speak to the hostess or manager?

Should I continue to check back and if need be speak to hotel concierge to see if they can sprinkle a little pixie dust?

Has anyone ever sneaked in 1 more person and gotten away with it?

Thanks in advance for your feedback.

I would recommend to keep checking until your ADR to see if you can add the person to the reservation. You can show up with the extra person and see if they add but be prepared to have the 7th person turned away. It's up to the discretion of the restaurant. They may only have a table big enough for 6 or have a full house and fire regulations prevent them from adding another person. Some people have good luck, others get turned away - it's all on the restaurant.

Don't count on it. The concierge has no more power than you do. They will take the extra person if there is room. Keep in mind that going from an even number to an odd, higher number almost always requires a larger table which they may not have available. The restaurant may also be full and fire code regulations prevent them from adding more people.

Keep checking.

I would keep checking, but there is no guarantee that your extra person will be accommodated. If you show up with a part of 7 instead of 6, they can (and have) turn that person away. The hostess and manager really won't be able to help you in that case. And if you won't be seated without the 7th person, you risk losing your entire reservation. Granted, you can walk up and ask, and they might be able to seat all 7 of you. But there is a very real possibility they won't be able to. If there isn't availability, the concierge won't be much help, either.

Most likely they'll let in your 7th person but 1) you might have to wait and 2) there is the outside chance they won't seat you with 7.

It's not like you are "sneaking in." You have to ask when you get there if they can seat 7 instead of 6. You can't just say you are 6 and then walk to the table with 7.

Thank you. I'll keep checking on My Disney Experience and calling Disney Dining - perhaps I'll get luckier as I get closer to the ADR.

In the past, I've shown up at Coral Reef and Nine Dragons with a larger party than on the original ADR, however, Coral Reef and Nine Dragons are nowhere near as popular as Via Napoli. Therefore, I do not want to run the risk of showing up with an extra person only to embarrass myself or worse, become one of those people I criticize all the time for expecting Disney to create miracles!

What about the reverse? If you make an ADR for a larger party and then two people don't come on the trip, can you call and have the ADR revised, or do you lose your reservation by making this change?

Chances are that when you add to your party you are not going to "lose your reservation" - the way that happens is if you come in with extra people, ask for them to be seated with you, the host tells you the restaurant is filled to capacity and they cannot add your extra people, and you refuse to be seated without them and the entire party walks away. That would likely result in your going down as a "no show" and probably being charged the no show fee.

If you come in with fewer people than you booked for, then you will not be at any risk of exceeding restaurant capacity and they won't turn any of your party away. If only one person shows up, then they keep the reservation (might have to wait for a smaller table to open up though)

I would do nothing because I wouldn't trust the phone CMs to not accidentally drop the ADR while revising it. There won't be a charge for showing up with fewer people.

Sometimes you can get lucky. When I went Jan 2013, I was able to add people left and right in person. My best luck: changing a 4 person to a 6 person at Via Napoli at the check in stand, and not having to change the time and was seated immediately. The next day I was able to add 2 people to a CP breakfast, but it was after MK was open.

What if I make an ADR for 1 or 2 people and ask to have it linked with my daughter's existing ADR for 6 people, same date/time. I just checked the MDE app and saw a reservation for 2 people at the same time my daughter's ADR is for. If I am able to link the ADRs, will we be accommodated/allowed to be seated together?

Thanks, I've been able to add extra parties too, however in less popular restaurants. :( I don't want to run the risk of being turned away at Via Napoli. My family and I are celebrating 2 birthdays in our bunch. :)

If it is the same exact time, then you may have luck. We had a larger group on our last trip. I used my own and my husband's MDE to make 2 reservations for smaller groups at same time, then called to have CM merge the two reservations. For the ones that were not the same exact time, we just arrived early, explained we had two different reservations to cover the number of people in our larger group, and asked if it was at all possible, to please seat the two parties together. We were prepared to hear "no", but were accommodated each time.

Thank you!! I just made the ADR with my MDE for the same exact time as my daughter's ADR. I will call first thing tomorrow morning to attempt to link the two ADRs.

Maybe, but you're still fighting the issue of a table large enough to accommodate all of you.

Currently you have reservations for two groups that are booked for a 6 top and a 2 top table. There is no way to call and link the reservations, but if there is an 8 top available you can have the phone castmember book that table and cancel your two current reservations. If an 8 top isn't available when you call, you can ask to be seated together when you check in at the restaurant. They will do their best, but it is a request. However, Via Napoli has a long communal table where they can seat large groups so you have a good chance of being seated together unless there are several other large groups already seated. In the meantime, keep checking online for a reservation for a party of 7 or 8 because there are frequent cancellations close to the day of as plans change so you might be lucky if you are diligent.

THE QUESTION OF AN EXTRA PERSON or EXTRA PEOPLE (the "411"):
1) Disney is getting wise to the "but, they decided to join us" or "I miscounted".
2) People can't always get the ADR they want.
3) So, many deliberately under-count to get a table.
4) Then, they show up with "unexpected" additional people.
5) In a team meeting, CM's have been told to warn guests against this.
6) If there is room, WDW will not turn away revenue.
7) But, if busy, they will turn away the additions.
8) Go ahead and arrive with the extras, if you like.
9) Just be prepared to have someone stand around while you eat.
10) I have heard explanations such as . . .
. . . "but, Aunt Suzy decided to join us and we need an extra seat"
. . . "but, two friends from off-site decided to join us and we need two extra seats"
. . . "but, long-lost brother-in-law decided to join us and we need an extra seat"
. . . "but, the entire Boy Scout Troop decided to join us and we need 14 extra sets"
. . . "but, my baby is so small that I didn't count her in the number of eaters"
.
NOTE1: It is far easier going from an odd-number to an even number, such as from 7-people to 8-people, adding a person to an even number of diners, such as going from 6-people to 7-people. Adding odd person can mean adding a table, and this might not be possible. Going from an odd-to-even might only mean adding a chair or using an empty seat. So, if going from even-to-odd, you might not get the extra person a seat. It is always better to get another ADR with the proper people-count.
.
NOTE2: Frequently a party-of-two will try to add a third person at the podium. This can be risky, because many eateries do have tables-for-two. If the guest was slated for one of these, there simply might not be a table available to seat the third person - even if an infant. The extra chair location might extend into an aisle and block access for other guests or Servers.
.
NOTE3: Sometimes it is a threesome adding a fourth. Unfortunately, there are many eateries that do have 3-top tables - usually against a wall or pillar. They can't add a fourth chair, since that would invade the aisle and be unsafe for SERVERS.
.
NOTE4: The final question is that of how many people are in the eatery. There are Fire Codes which dictate the maximum amount of people. If the capacity is exceeded, there are some big fines possible. And, Disney will not violate the max-capacity of an eatery.

Thank you. I'll keep checking on My Disney Experience and calling Disney Dining - perhaps I'll get luckier as I get closer to the ADR.

I would also try for 8 instead of 7 as it is sometimes easier to get an even number that odd. you are not charged no show if 7 show instead of 8. good luck
