Adding an extra driver

Has anyone added an extra driver when arriving to pick up your car, we have booked a car through Usrentacar, at the time I didn't want to pay the extra for the extra driver and the expensive tank of petrol.

But

Was thinking if hubby got sick and couldn't drive it would be a right pain in the rear end.

So I thought I could add the extra driver at the airport if I can and aprox how much extra it costs.

Which rental company? they all vary. & how long for?

We have booked with Dollar picking up 19th May dropping off 3rd June.

I believe thats 15 days? it costs $10+tax/day for an additional driver, that would be approx £100 inclusive.

USrentacar charge £56 for extra tank of gas and driver. Depending on size of car tank of gas could be worth somewhere near that, car we had last month cost $81(£50) for 1st tank with Alamo.
Have you paid extra for cancellations and alterations? even if you haven't its worth paying the £15 amendment fee to add Gold.

Thanks Wayne I just rang and upgraded it to the gold rate at an extra £63 so I have now got it sorted, thankyou for your help.

Now I am on the allowed drivers I might have to take myself off for a spot of shopping leaving the kids with hubby.

Almost every trip we have done I have taken gold/platinum cover. Even though Karen has never driven out there cost has nearly always been covered with the tank of gas so worth the few £ extra to include her for emergencies, especially on a 2 week or less trip, longer trips less so.

I have a similar question. I will be picking the car up at the airport and we usually go for platinum cover (I too get to go off for a bit of retail on my own). However, this time my husband won't be with me but I will be returning to the airport a few days later to pick him up. When I pick the car up initially will he need to be with me with his licence to get him added or can I just take his licence with me and do it without him.

I am just wondering whether they will want to match him to his photo.

Will be interested in the answer to that, I always thought you had to be present to be added but not 100% sure.

Actually it just occurred to me that I emailed one of the rental companies about this the other day but I haven't had a reply. Will chase it up.
