they will not be with DVC points.

The hubster and I booked a trip for Memorial Day weekend (May 29-June 3) however we got to talking and would really love to add both Friday and Saturday (June 3 &4) to our trip and check out on Sunday June 5th.

We don't want to use points, as we borrowed from next year and it leaves us enough to take a trip next Spring. So I called DVC and asked about the rate using the DVC cash discount. It comes to $255/night plus tax to add the two nights to our ressie (SSR studio).

However, on Annual Passholder Specials, I can get a studio at SSR for two nights for $221/night + plus tax. The DVC rep on the phone agreed that the AP rate would be the way to go.

So now I am wondering if we go ahead and book those two nights under the AP discount can we tell them at check in and be able to keep our room that we will already have on our points stay ro will we have to do a whole "check-out/check-back-in" thing?

and on another note:

When looking up AP rates at various hotels, why does a deluxe villa hotel come out cheaper than a stay at a deluxe? I looked up the same two nights at Beach Club and found that the rate for a regular Beach Club room was just over $700 versus a BCV studio for around $550. Hmm maybe it's just because I am comparing a studio to a regular room. Okay, then so why is a studio cheaper than a regular room at a deluxe?

You will definitely have to check out and back in again, because you'll be on two different reservations. If you talk to them at check-in, though, they may be able to keep you in the same room. The problem will be if you're in a lock-off studio and someone has it booked as a two bedroom the day your reservations change.

Will you be using internet? You will have to pay for it on the AP nights. If so, that makes the price difference a little closer. If you book through member services, it will be treated as one stay and you will not have to check-out/check-in. With the AP rate, you will have to check-out/check-in. I did it once at OKW and was able to keep the same room.

Regarding the rate difference, according to mousesavers, a standard beach club room for early June weekend is $410 plus tax vs a studio at $395. That's rack rate. Typically the AP discount is a higher % off for the villas because they are harder to fill. Most studios (except OKW) only have 1 queen bed plus a double sleeper sofa vs a regular room with 2 queens and a daybed.

Get the reservation number for the DVC reservation noted on the AP reservation and vice versa. When you check into the resort, ask if you have been blocked into the same villa. You will have to check out and check back in again if you are blocked into the same villa. Otherwise, you'll have to check out and take all your stuff and about 4 or so, check into a new villa.

Both reservation should be titled the same. If it is Husband name + Wife name on the points reservation, then the AP reservation should be exactly the same. It makes it easier for them to block the room for both stays.

Have you even looked into renting points either from rent/trade board or David's? It is 36 points for 2 nights stay approx. 360.00 total including tax and free internet and I believe you can link your ressie's with MS to increase your chances of staying in the same room.
Just a thought. David's have last minute specials for less then 10.00pp. Good luck

"Renting points" will give you a similar situation - two separate reservations that need to be linked (except AP reservation and DVC points stays cannot be linked only noted).

What they need is a transfer of points. Then the points become theirs and they can just add the extra two nights. If they haven't already gotten a transfer in this UY.

This is the way I would go.

I don't know, maybe it is me, but for $34, I would book through MS to ensure that I don't have to move rooms.

Good luck!

We also noticed that the Studio Villas were cheaper than regular deluxe rooms. We added nights to the beginning AND end of our DVC stay and used the AP rate. We'll be staying in studio villas, as they were cheaper than the regular rooms. It'll be our first TRIPLE split stay!!! (We've done plenty of double split stays, but this time we'll be doing BWV, OKW, VWL.)
