My wife and I are staying at the HGVC off of I-drive and have a question.

We arrive on Friday, 11/30 and depart Saturday, 12/8 however......our ressie is only for 7 nights (Fri-Fri) and have been told that we need to wait until 9/1 before we can inquire about adding a night in hopes of actually getting it.

My initial thought was that if we were not able to get that additional night that we would just book 2 rooms somewhere for the last night. Having said that, I made a call and had been quoted a nice rate to simply add the night but when speaking to someone esle a while later, was quoted a much higher figure equaling almost 1/2 of what I paid for the week.

Meanwhile, there had been some family concern that we really wouldn't be able to enjoy the 1st night as we wouldn't be getting in until fairly late and that the original ressie should have been for Sat-Sat so that if we had to shack up at a hotel, we could do so near the airport and be done with it.

Anyway, adding further complexity (really insult), I learned that if I were to shift the week to Sat-Sat, I would then be charged $60 to do so. Needless to say, there will be no shift so to make a really long story short, can any fellow RCI member share there experiences about adding a night and what tactics you used to make this happen with little to no difficulty?

Thanks

I have found the best way to guarantee that you can obtain an extra night is to phone the resort direct and see if they will allow you to pay for an extra night and add it on to your original reservation at HGVC. We have been sucessful at doing this with VV and eliminated the need to move to another unit or resort, deal with unrefrigerated food, pack etc. Unfortunately, with the difference between check out times and check in times, you waste most of a vacation day just relocating. I also have not found RCI to be helpful when it comes to exchanging out of that 7 day window. We were very fortunate that we didn't buy into that whole timeshare thing! I use to rent weeks from a co-worker who never used her exchange privileges, but now find it much easier to rent a house or condo direct from the resort and eliminate RCI all together. It is much easier and you have a confirmed reservation, dealing with the resort. My last experience with RCI was a nightmare! I had an exchange into Bonnet Creek for 1 1/2 years that they kept assuring me I would get and one month out, they phoned and said that I had to choose another resort from the second and third rate resorts they had left. I promptly cancelled and have never looked back!:rolleyes1

Are you a Weeks member, or a Points member?

If you are in Points, it should be straightforward to add another night. But, if you are doing a Weeks exchange, or using Extra Vacations, it's really built around 7 night stays. What's more, RCI's cancellation/change policies, while they leave something to be desired, are always very clearly spelled out when you book. So, RCI isn't going to be much help.

Your best hope is going to be dealing with the resort directly. It is also *very* possible that you will have to change units, so that might be a reason to try another resort for that night.

As for exchanges, BC is very rarely deposited, but it is often possible to get some very nice units in Orlando. I just put a unit at Houses at Summer Bay on hold---a 3BR detatched home with a private heated pool. The total cost to me, including exchange fee and the value of the underlying week, was only $375. That's nothing to sneeze at!
