My DS 20 turns 21 in three weeks. We are going down to WDW to celebrate his birthday with him (he is down at NASA as a summer intern.) As a birthday gift, we wanted to add him as a member but are not sure how to do that. My wife and I are members but when we joined he was only 10 so it never crossed our minds.

Any advice?

You have to have him added to your deed, just like if you added him to your home/house deed. Requires paperwork and fees. I've seen folks quote anywhere from $250-$500 for the process. We added our adult daughter when we purchased. Obviously you should know the pros and cons. For example he will be an owner and his financial decisions (bankruptcy/leans in the future) or marriage/divorce (in the future) will affect this property as he will be a third owner of this real estate. Make sure you know all of this before making this decision. We have several children, but only one we trust enough financially by making her an owner.......sad, but true.

I am going thru the process now. Its $475 plus some small paperwork fees per contract - but if you have multiple contacts at the same resort the fee is $525. I am removing my ex wife and if all goes well it takes 8 weeks. I am using the Disney recommended title company but you can find your own lawyer - but they really need to know the Florida process - its easier for me to just pay the fee. If you call member administration they will email you the process. I own at 3 different resorts and will have fees of $525 (for 2 contracts at SS), $475 for BLT, and $475 for GF.

I plan on adding my son when he turns 18 - and I will have to repeat the process - yes - another $1,475 plus some paperwork fees. But its only money - right?

OMG! (read that as my jaw just hit the floor.)

Yes, I read that the fees are per contract. That would be expensive. We own 3 homes, and 7 contracts. We have our adult daughter list on each of the contracts, but did it everytime we added on.

We did it a few years ago, my BIL is a real estate attorney and he did the paperwork from OH. I think it only cost me less than $50 or so for the actual fees. $500 is a nice mark up they are getting for filling out a few forms.
