Adding a guest to a GT reservation

Are you allowed to add anyone to a GT reservation after the booking? We would like to book a GT room for a cruise in October before the rate goes away, but my husband won’t know for several weeks if he can get the time off work. If we make the reservation without him, is there a chance we could add him to our stateroom later if he’s able to get the time off? Thanks!

A *GT -- such as the discounted VGT/OGT/IGT with restrictions? No changes, that includes adding or removing a passenger. Sorry.
Sorry that's incorrect as long as the discount is still available you can add a guest. I just add my dh to my cruise next week and have added him in last minute on several other cruises.

All of you are giving the OP incorrect information. As long as the GT rate is still available with the number of passengers that want to be added they can be added. If the rate is not available then no.

I didn't know that I must has misunderstood what they were telling me. When I booked my GT reservation they told me at the time of booking that no changes whatsoever were allowed after I made the reservation. I also had to pay for the cruise in full at that date. They Disney person on the phone said over and over again you can't make any changes, you can't remove or add any one and you can't cancel. (You can but you better have insurance as they weren't going to give me my money back :) )

Well that's true you can't make changes unless it involves you giving them more money. Why would any cruise lines say no to adding a passenger at an additional fee. You can't remove anyone and get a refund, you cant change sailing date, you can't change discount, you can't cancel, you can't change from a GT rate to a non-GT rate, you can't have more than 4 in a room, and you can't change names of guests, but you can certainly add a person if the rate is still available. They will be more than happy to take your money.

Price out the cruise with the number of people desired if the GT rate is available with that number of people call DCL and add them. Then all the rules above will apply to the new person. I would do this before room is assigned if you are adding a 4th person. CM's don't always give you correct info that's why data points from customers are so important. This is true for most businesses.

I understand you were allowed to do it. That doesn't mean everyone would be allowed to add a guest to *GT. The rules still state no changes and goes so far as to state "Full legal names of all Guests are required at time of booking and no name changes are allowed." I don't interpret that as adding a guest is allowed. Many times *GT rates don't allow more than 3 guests; it really depends on the cruise. Of course, if OP (and the DH) is willing to take a chance that he can't be added, they are welcome to book now with the confirmed party member(s) and try to add the other later. If that's a deal-breaker for them, I would advise waiting until his work schedule is confirmed and hope a *GT rate is still available.

I’ve done it a dozen or more times and we’re a family of four. I’m not some special exception. I think I’ve explained the rules very well and explained how to determine if you can do it before calling DCL. It was all very clear in my post, but I’ll say it again. If the GT rate is available online for the party size you want you can call Disney and add the person. If it’s not available you can’t. I think I stated that very clearly.

To tell someone it’s not allowed under any circumstances which many of you did is false.

Yes it’s a chance you take if someone can’t decide until the last minute, and there’s a chance the rate may not be available. OP can take it from there.

Funny enough, I am now in this situation where my mom would like to be added to my VGT reservation. Will report back what I hear from my travel agent.
Since my original booking, the cost of VGT reservations has gone up ~$200 per occupant.

Ours didn’t go up, but the port taxes did. The taxes are really high out of Miami. The price of the first and second guess will go up when you add more people, but the third and fourth will be less.

I just received confirmation from my travel agent. DCL allowed us to add an additional adult at the new rate but kept our rates the same for the adult and 2 children already booked in the room.

Original booking was adult + 2 kids at $1270/$1270/$691.20

The new booking 2 adults + 2 kids is $1270/$1470/$691.20/$691.20

Weird I’ve never seen GT rates change, but I’m pretty quick to book if I’ve been waiting on it to drop. Glad mom could go.

They have changed but not by much. We booked our Dream cruise which sails next Monday, back in May. Ds22 was considering joining us with a friend. The price was around $1379 for VGT when we booked and it was slightly over $1400 when he was considering it. Maybe $1425?
Not a huge jump but it's not set in stone.

Also, we booked VGT for our late November 2021 cruise. Again ds 22 considered joining us so I asked my TA if we could add him. She replied with yes and gave me the amount it would cost.

Also they are not willing to change dates/itineraries even if it is a much more expensive cruise. Like I said, we booked this Sept VGT back in May. We don't usually book any VGT cruise that many months prior. Usually more like a few weeks before but we were already booked and even with OBB discount, switching to VGT saved around $900 which was worth it to me. We later noticed the 7-nt British Isles cruise was also offering VGT rates that of course were a lot more money than our 4-nt quickie. So I asked our TA if we could switch to that and she contacted DCL and they wouldn't budge, even for a longer, more expensive VGT cruise.

It never hurts to ask!

Thanks for all of the responses. We ended up including DH on the VGT reservation, as we think most likely he will be able to get the time off and we weren't willing to risk the rate being gone by the time he got the final go ahead.
