We currently own a 180 point BLT contract with September UY. We are now finding that we need to add on for two reasons: growing family & need a larger room (we knew this would happen & planned on it) but also needing to travel in July now (DH had a career change a few years ago and is now a teacher) which is much more expensive point wise then our previous September & December travel times. Because DH is a teacher & we'll likely travel in July at least every other year if not more often, this is why we're hoping to purchase a different UY. I've heard it's really complicated to have two separate UYs. Thoughts? Advice? We are from Kansas City and currently only taking one vacation a year, so I would be using the points together.

We're thinking about getting 160 more points, and would like to buy at SSR for price point, we enjoy staying there. I know the argument is buy where you want to stay, which is why we own at BLT, we like walking home after Wishes (especially with tiny kids!). But we can save significantly by buying SSR. Is it hard to get a 1 Bdrm in July at 7 months? At BLT? DH is also interested in trying all the resorts on property, staying at AKV this summer hopefully. With little kids I'm not Keenan split stays, but it wouldn't be the end of the world either.

We have two littles, 2.5 and nearly 1, and are hoping to add a couple more. We also often bring my MIL on trips. When our kids are a bit older we plan on taking adult only weekend getaways in the fall/maybe spring, but that's not really factoring into our current decision.

Can anyone weigh in on having two separate UYs and using them on single trips?

Are you planning to use the two contracts for one reservation, or will you use each use year for a separate reservation?

I think buying a different home resort and/or cheaper points are good options but not for everyone. If you mostly want BLT, I'd just buy there though it likely is worth getting a different UY for summer trips. It might even be worth selling what you have and buying a larger contract with a better UY. It does get a little more complicated trying to link rooms if you reserve with 2 legally different contracts. I would not buy SSR trying to get in to BLT most trips, I'd just buy BLT. In the long run the savings isn't worth it. OTOH, if you want to use the new points for other things outside BLT most of the time, the savings might be worth it.

I would ideally like to use them for the same reservation, but if I had to have separate reservations (and the possibility of switching rooms and/or resorts) it wouldn't be the end of the world, albeit a pain for the next few years. Is that possible with separate UY?

For the next five years or so we'd probably try for BLT every time, but after that we're looking forward to trying out the different resorts.

I've have even thought a few times of selling our Sept contract and buying another BLT contract with a better UY but this seems like a pain and like I'd risk loosing money somehow.

Selling and buying back in will cost you around 10% of the sales price, maybe $2K on the sale. You can make most or maybe all of that up by buying a larger contract which will likely be $5-7 per point less than what you sell at so possibly close to break even OOP but with a little less options later if you decided you wanted to sell. If you only buy a smaller contract, say 160, but a better UY you'll still pay more pp than on one larger one and have some of the protections, possibly a second home resort that worked (or cheaper points like SSR) and smaller contracts if you wanted to downsize later. You're in about as bad a shape for UY as possible and IMO, an April or June UY would be worth a good years worth of points in your described situation. So if you plan to travel consistently in the summer and not other times, I'd buy larger then sell the current contract if you want all at BLT. I'd just buy a smaller contract if you want a different home resort. If you link reservations you could have to move but likely wouldn't, but you would have to check in again on any change day.

Different use years work best when you treat them as completely separate memberships and use them independently for different trips. If you want to combine points, it will be much, much easier to to add on with the same use year.
