Contains Olympic spoilers for you West Coasters...

I'm not a big sports guy. I enjoy watching the hometown Philadelphia Phillies (although lately, it's been awfully tough to watch their season fall apart). I'm a fan of golf. But that's about it.

So, why am I so addicted to the Olympics? And why two minutes ago when Paul Hamm won gold in gymnastics did I get chills? As he stood there in utter disbelief (we saw him shaking his head saying "No, No" in total disbelief), I couldn't help but smile...a lot. The images of him falling after the vault just flew into my mind. How could he possibly have won? Wow. Hearing the national anthem play and watching him stare up at the flag just made me proud.

Why are these Olympics doing this to me? I read somewhere that someone stated that the Olympics give you an opportunity to be proud of the image that this great country conveys. No matter where your politics lie (and in this highly divisive country, it's a definite that people are not all on the same side), the Olympics give you a chance to be proud to be an American. A chance to all come together and be proud of what this country stands for.

So, I guess for the next nine days or so, I'll stay glued to the Olympics and continue to be proud to be living in this country.

Yes, hopefully West Coasters aren't reading this yet!

Having said that; I thought it was awesome how Paul went from 12th to Gold!!! That was incredible!!!!:bounce:

Hm....and the guys who came in 2nd and 3rd are already complaining that the "USA got more than it deserved."

Nice.

Very well said! I got quite choked up when Paul won. I think I was as shocked as he was. I sure thought it was over and that maybe Brett would finish higher. How awesome for him and for the US!!

I can't wait til tomorrow for the women's all around! Go U~S~A !!!

I enjoy them because they are so emotional- I am a crier, and I love being able to indulge in a good boo-hoo when either a USA athlete wins, or someone with a compelling "up close and personal" story does well.

Also, because DH and I rarely enjoy the same type of TV shows, and we can both watch and enjoy the Olympics. Him for the macho sports aspect, and me so I can sniffle. (Also, the male athletes are hotties!):teeth:

The olympics are a great show. Hope more events contain the same excitement level as this did.

DH said he isn't interested in the Olympics. However, as he was flipping the channels he stopped dead in his tracks at the women's beach volleyball game. :teeth:
