Add resort "guest" who is not actually staying?

Hi everyone!

I'm trying to figure out if there is a downside to adding a 4th member to my resort stays at the Poly and AK Lodge. My family (2 adults, 1 child) will be travelling in from out of state, but my mother is going to join for part of the trip, and she is local (and will be a Sorcerer's pass-holder).

So while she will not actually be sleeping there, it would ease our logistics if she could get into our room without us escorting her, so she can help with our child while we might be in the parks or dining separately.

Is that a thing that can be done? Does it carry an additional fee to add another resort guest? Are there any other downsides (or upsides) of this that I'm not thinking of?

Thanks for such a helpful community!

The only downside would be that you'd be charged for the extra adult every day if she's on the reservation.

If you add her to the reservation her in advance, you would definitely have to pay for her as an additional guest in your room and she would have to have the same ticket package as you. You could wait until you arrive, and I'm sure it would be fine for one day, but multiple days may change things. Then there's the whole "pool" thing . . . Can she just use your child's magic band to access the room?

What kind of reservation, room only? Package? DVC?

With DVC there would be no issues so long as within room capacity, room only would just be the extra adult fee per night, but with a package including tickets, everyone on the reservation has to have the same tickets and the same length of stay.

I'm in a similar situation- when my bf drives into the resort, can I just put his name under my room? He'll be arriving with his kids. They are all just staying for the day.

I would just give her a room key (ask for three since there are three of you). Sounds like your child won't need theirs alone.

Only down side is if they are checking at the pool, if she goes there with you. All guests would need proof of staying. But you could check and ask about a day guest for that; be prepared for any answer.

I would not add her to the reservation as you ll need to pay for her. She can just be ur guest for the day, hand off a magic band to her and let her use that for room access etc.

It costs an additional $35 per day to add a third adult to a reservation at a deluxe resort. It is easy to do if you have a room only reservation. She would be able to get her own MagicBand and have access to the Volcano pool at the Poly. You can't add her to a package reservation unless you buy a ticket for her. If you have a package reservation then you can add her to the room when you check in. She will also be able to park in the resorts' parking lots, since she will be registered to the room. The Polynesian is especially strict about parking.

There aren't any downsides to adding her to your room except for the extra adult fee.

If she doesn't plan to go to the pool then you could just get a key card from the front desk. I don't know about parking, though.

I guess we were lucky and got some "pixie dust" when our daughter surprised us with a quick visit while we were at disney. She stayed over night, bought tickets for 2 days. I went to the front desk and asked what I needed to do since she is staying one night. The nice lady said, "Just add her as a day guest and there will be no charges". So, we got pixie dusted for one night. I wasn't demanding and just asked, so maybe that helped?

We went with my parents and they stayed with our son a couple of nights while we went out (they were staying off property). They just used his MB.

If they plan on using the resort pools, they will need to be on the reservation.

Thanks for all the advice! I took a look online at the cost to add her to the room, but as some of you mentioned, the issue I encountered is that one of our stays is a "package" booking. We don't want to add her to that booking ahead of time since she will have an annual pass so she certainly does not need a ticket. Also, I found out the ticket we have in that package (5 day parkhopper) is not offered any longer for our 3 day stay. (We want to use the other two days during the second part of our split stay.) So I think I will just ask when we get there and deal with it however the hotel suggests. I'm not sure the pool will be an issue simply because the weather in February is anyone's guess.

Are you staying on DVC points or cash? If it is points I do not see the problem besides she may not want to drive home one night'

We're cash guests I guess (not DVC), and if it is relevant, we will be club level so I don't know if access is more restricted to those floors?

I wouldn't add her to your hotel reservation. Just go to the front desk and ask for a key card. You can use your MB, she can use the key card. That will give her access everywhere (and charging privileges, if she needs them).
