Many of you have spoken about doing add-ons in a non- home resort.

Does this mean that if you originally purchased 200 points at Resort A and then subsequently purchase 100 points at Resort B, that:

At the 11 month window you have ONLY 200 points to use at Resort A and

At the 11 month window you have ONLY 100 points to use at Resort B?

I'm not sure what else this could mean, yet at the same time I'm not sure what the intent is. Do people split their vacations between 2 different resorts or take 2 different vacations or use all of the points at the 7 month window? Does this turn out to be a logisical nightmare if you don't want to split your time and you want to book at the 11 month windor (because when you are at the 11 month window with one you are by definition at the 7 month window with the other).

Also, if you do an add-on at your home resort, has anyone ever had problems with the use years being different?

Thanks!

YOu have the scenario right about the booking. As to add-on use years, Disney will only sell you a use year that is the same as the one you have. That can be a little difficult sometimes if your use year is sold out. We bought 230 OKW points first and added-on another 150 OKW points a year later. They have the same use year and are treated as one when you are banking and booking. This would not be true if they were at different resorts.

As to your asking if people switched resorts in the middle of a trip, yes some do. A more adequate way to do it would be to reserve the time at the 11 month window of each resort, and then try to change one at the 7 month window so the ressie would all be at one resort.

We bought at OKW (site unseen) last Ocotber and have yet to stay there. We booked BWV for July because it is my DD's 10th birthday and she chose the resort (what a luxury!!). We are hoping to go to VB after BWV (if available) and hope to add on. We love to go to VB either before or after or WDW stay!!! One trip we actually stayed at 4 resorts!!! It was a little tiring changing rooms but we were able to see alot and it just clarified our reasoning for buying into DVC!!!

If you don't like to change resorts in the middle of your stay and also want or need the 11 month advantage, you can alternate your vacations between the two resorts. If you do that, you can have the 11 month advantage for each reservation. Using your example, for Year 1, you bank the points at Resort A and borrow next year's points at Resort B. You use the 11 month advantage (using 2 years' worth of points) to book your vacation at Resort B. For Year 2, you use your 11 month advantage at resort A (and you will again have two years' worth of points to use). Then you repeat the process for subsequent years. In this way, you get to experience two different resorts (in alternate years) with the 11 month advantage available at both. Hope I haven't confused you. :D

Carol, no you haven't confused me. What you say makes perfect sense and seems like a great way to experience 2 different resorts that you like about equally and maintain the 11 month advantage at all times.

Everyone else had great advice too, as I knew you would.

Rosemary, I think we're neighbors!

invalid_character,

Just down the street from each other. We used to live in No. Reading and moved to Wakefield about 5 years ago.

Since I last left you a message on this post, I called MS and cancelled my BWV ressie and switched to OKW and am now on the VB waitlist. The great thing about DVC is it's flexibility!!! My DD decided that staying at OKW and saving points makes for more Disney vacations....SMART girl! Hopefully VB will come through for us (that's my fav resort).

This board is wonderful and everyone is so helpful. Don't be shy asking questions...most of these people are DVC professionals and know everything there is to know...I may have a Veteran status but I have alot to learn.

We have 300 OKW points, and 100 BWV points. We stay at OKW when we take a big group (kids + grandkids). We like the extra large rooms, and on trips with the grandkids we don't go to Epcot much, so the location is no big deal. We save the BWV points for adult trips. On these we spend a lot of time at Epcot and playing on the Boardwalk.

Rosemary, it does sound like OKW is a great value. I hope you have a wonderful time.

BTW, I'm new to message boards. I'm assuming that

DD = daughter.

Correct?

DD=Disney Daughter, Darling Daughter, Dopey Daughter, Daffy Daughter anything really fits the first D but the second one is Daughter.

Mostly she is my Darling Daughter but sometimes.....

Welcome to the boards and hope to say Welcome Home someday soon.

Jimbo, that's also an excellent idea.
I'm thinking of doing something similar. I'd like to buy some points at BCV when it becomes available for the nuclear family and then do an OKW add-on for extended family. BTW, is OKW sold out now? I'd have to go re-sale then, right?

Is bus service pretty regular from OKW?

Thanks for the great advice!

I did what CAROLM suggested. We orignailly set out to buy 550 points at BWV, but really preferred WLV. Rich on this board pointed out that if I need to sell 550 points, it would be a problem, as not many people can afford that. The average points is around 200. He suggested splitting the purchase between 2 resorts, so that if I ever needed to sell all or part, it would move very fast. What I realized then was that it solved a problem my wife and I had.....BWV is quite busy, perfect for my kids right now, but we like the quietness of WLV. So we bought 275 points at each resort. NOW between banking and alternating years I always have 550 points at a resort with an 11 month booking window. That will always get us a 2BR preferred view during Magic season more than 8 or 9 days. Now we will alternate years between the two resorts, and I also have set up my wills to pass each of the two resorts to my 2 boys, should something happen to my wife and I.

This program really worked for us.

You won't be able to do an OKW add on because it is sold out, but you can do a resale, and there are more OKW resales out there than BWV. I guess if it was me, I would do the OKW resale now and add BCV when they come on line next year. That way you can enjoy an extra year of point vacations! ;)
