Add-on vs New Contract

I was reading a BLT thread where people were talking about being allowed to add on with 50 points but only being able to create a new contract with 160. What is the difference between adding on and creating a new contract?

If I were to add on (I currently own SSR) at BLT, does that mean that I couldn't sell my SSR points someday separate from my BLT? In other words, would adding on mean that the points from both resorts are forever linked?

It is something you might do if you want a second use year. All add-ons are in same use year you already have. The only way they will give you a second use year is to buy the new purchaser minimum of 160. Note, most have no need for two use years and adding on in same use year does not affect ability to sell the contracts separately.
