Add on Use Year Question

Hi all ~ I can never wrap my mind around the whole use year thing . We have 75 points at OKW Feb use year. We want to purchase somewhere around 30 points at BCV or AKV. We only do to Disney once every other year. What use year would work best for me?

If you do the add-on direct from DVC, you will get the same use year. Use year only comes into play when you have to cancel a reservation. You can't bank points within the last 4 months of your use year. A use year that begins just before you normally vacation would be best.

I am looking resale. I thought use year had to do with when you can make reservations.

In addition, with so few points total I would not want a different use year. If it was me, I'd add on at your same home resort to have the most flexibility, but if you are set on a different resort, I'd still want the same use year for ease of banking and borrowing. Disney requires all add-ons through them to be the same use year, and then it is dependant on your use year being availble.

You can always make reservations 11 months prior to checkout at your home resort. The UY points are used from is determined by the dates of your reservation.

Use year has nothing to do with when you can make reservations. The only thing that determins WHEN you can make a reservation is your home resort and booking 11 or 7 months ahead of your stay. You can book your home resort 11 months before your checkout date, and you can book non-home resorts 7 months ahead of your check out date.

Another FYI...
For smaller point contracts like that you will pay a premium to buy resale. Since you are already a member, why not buy direct from Disney and save the closing costs? Members to do no pay closing costs when buying add-ons direct, but you will pay higher closing costs in relation to the total if you buy a small resale.
