We already have direct points, so if we add on, it makes sense to do resale right? We already have the "perks" so now we look at cost, unless I am missing something.

If you buy resale, does it make sense to look for the same UY you already have? I think it would be easier to keep track of, but I wasn't sure if I was missing something that would make it better to have different UY.

If you purchase a different UY, it will be under a separate membership from your existing contract. Separate memberships makes it more difficult to use points from both for a single reservation.

Resale points purchased now for a resort other than Riviera can't be used for a reservation at Riviera.
Resale points purchased now for Riviera can only be used for a reservation at Riviera.

Depends on many things. Do you want to be able to use the new points at Riviera (and probably future resorts)? Are you looking for a small add-on? Smaller ones are easier to buy through Disney. Are you willing to wait out the process for buying resale including ROFR?

I would buy the same UY unless you already have a decent number of points and make reservations when those points would be at risk (meaning you travel in the last 4 months of your current UY). If you think you would be frequently combining the points to make reservations, it might be more trouble than it is worth to have a separate UY.

Resale points bought today, even though you own direct points, will not be good at RIV or any future resort. You won't be able to combine them at 7 months with what you own.

So, if you don't care if your points are restricted to the L14 resorts...and this could include being shut out of VDH and the new Poly tower...then resale will work since you already qualify for membership extras.

We love RIV and want unrestricted points so resale didn't work for us, even though we had plenty of points we could still use and were eligible for the extras....

Having a different UY could be beneficial under some circumstances such as:

• You intend to use the other points for a separate reservations at a different time of the year
  • For example: If you have a June UY now, but you want frequently book vacations from Feb through May it may make sense to get another UY (such as December) to cover those reservations
