Can someone clarify this for me...

We're considering purchasing a small DVC contract. We only take a big vacation every 2-3 years so we would use banking and borrowing extensively. We love OKW, but our kids are coming into the age where AKV would be perfect. We would probably stay only 5 nights and would prefer a savanna view 1 BR. We would not travel during premier season so we would need a max of 150 points for a Su-Th stay. If we went every 3 years, we'd only need a 50 point contract (max).

Here's my question...

Would it be wise to find a 50 point resale for OKW, purchase that, and then do a 50 point AKL add on from Disney? My parents love OKW and my dad will be retiring in 5 years. I know that they would take a trip or 2. I assume we could try to add a night or upgrade to a 2 BR at AKV at the 7 month window (I know, no guarantees) if we still had OKW points available.

One other question...

If we found that the OKW points weren't getting utilized (i.e. we're only going every 3 years and the 150 AKV points are sufficient), can we resell our OKW contract without it effecting the AKV add-on?

I think I confused myself!:confused3

On the OKW front, if you think that AKV fits you better, then I would buy there. OKW is rather large so you should be able to get it at 7 months. However, it is probably easier to get a 50 point OKW contract than a 50 point AKV resale contract at this time. So your plan may be a better approach.

On your 2 contract question, assuming OKW is your master contract and AKV is your add-on. Yes, you can sell your OKW contract and still keep your AKV contract. Once you do this, your AKV contract will then become your master contract.

That's the answer I was hoping for. Thank you!

I would prefer to own only at AKV, but 160 points is WAAAY to many for us. If we decide to go through with it, I wouldn't want to be forced into waiting for an AKV resale of less than 100 points to come available. DH and myself as well as my parents have stayed at OKW and loved it. I just think that with Kidani Village, AKV will be far more appealing to my DD's who are currently 5 and 2. I think that the 11 month booking window will be a necessity for us over the next 10 years, so owning at least something at AKV is imperative. Down the road, if DH and I want to vacation alone, we could combine the points and book OKW at the 7 month window, which I am sure would be easier.
