We are new DVC members. We had been talking with someone and they mentioned how DVC will send out specials twice a year for members to purchase more points at a discounted rate (usually $10-15 lower than current rate). Several questions:

Is this correct?

If yes, what is the least amount of points you can purchase (I am thinking 25) to add-on to existing contract?

When do they usually send out these special offers?


We own at SSR so if I want to purchase at AKV, my understanding, is that I have to purchase at least 25 points right?

Does anyone know the current price?

We just recieved a thing in the mail about point prices going up as of June 5, 2007. This is not what I am asking about. This is different than what those members had told us. Any help on this would be appreciated. Thanks.

I hope my recollections are correct.

25 point is the minimum for cash/credit card purchase. 50 is the minimum if you want to finance via Disney.


The price is always the current price. However, DVC usually runs some type of promotion where they credit you $8-$10/point or some variant thereof. In the case of AKV, DVC is offering at $101/point to current members and $104 to new members. If you buy 100 or more points, they credit $8/point. Less than 100, there is no credit. In june, the price does go to $104 for all.

Like any business, DVC wants to make money and sell points. If sales slow down or drop below their projections they will have a sale. If sales are strong, they will increase prices.

There was a special "friends & family" promotion last fall for SSR. As part of DVC's 15th anniversary celebration, they offered a $15/pt discount for those adding on at SSR, bringing the price down to $86/pt. I think the minimum add on to qualify for the discount was 115 points??

Remember, the price has NEVER gone down. Last year you could have purchased at the "special price" of $86. The year before "special price" was $81. This year it is $91. Follow the pattern? Next year, probably $96.
