If I have a grandfather resale contract and now add on points will they still be able to combine contracts with the new rules of not using resale points at any new resort even though the use year is the same? TIA

No, they will fall under the new rules. If the UY is the same, they will come under the same contract number as an add-on to the first. But they follow the new rules. MS knows the status of your points.

ok thanks. So they will be available for the legacy 14 but the add on not available for new (Riviera and going forward). When I make a reservation then will I be able to pick grandfathered or new points. I would want to use the new points first.(I think)

If you book online, it is easy to pick what points you want to use first. But those new points won't be able to be used for Riviera or any new ones. They will be good for the 14 unless they change the rules again before you buy them.

Yes, if you think that you will want to book at Rivera, the when booking at other resorts, choose the new contract first. When booking Rivera or any future resort, I would assume that the only contract that will show up as usable will be the one that has points that are eligible.

Direct points come with no restrictions. So, if that was the case, you would be able to combine the current points you have with the new ones to book RIV and any other future points

And for usage it's the same thing as a resale - it will be a separate contract you can select to use first or not. Because they would be eligible for all new resort just like your grandfathered contract it might not matter but if you bought at a different resort than where you currently own then it might matter at some time for the home resort priority.
