Add On enough points for 1BR or 2BR? 2 Studios maybe?

Hi All - currently have 100 BCV points since 2008. We've been using Studios. DD is now 13 and DS is now 10 - Studios are now difficult. Looking to add more points. With a teenage daughter and pre-teen son, we don't know how well the 1BR pull-out will work for us moving forward. Have been looking at # of points needed for 2BR - then the thought that using 2 studios is about the same points as a 1BR. Has anyone ever thought about or used this approach? Are there any connecting studios? If not, how difficult would it be to book two near each other at 7 or 11 months out? Any thoughts are appreciated?

Studios do not connect and having them close is just a request. We had a larger party traveling last August and had two studios as part of the reservation, along with a 2 bedroom.

At BWV, they were on the same floor but about 8 doors from each other, with one being across from the 2 bedroom. At BLT, the three rooms were all on different floors.

Remember, at BLT, AKV, and OKW, there is the sleeper chair so when staying there, you will be able to be in a 1 bedroom and still have a place for each of the kids to sleep.

Good luck!

At many resorts the studios are connected to 1BR units to open up to a 2br lockoff - so it can be tough to if at all possible, to have two studios next to one another.

Old Key West has Studios that have two queen beds!

That's definitely a better option for your family!

Thank you -this is very helpful! Is the sleeper chair at BLT, AKV and OKW large enough to comfortably sleep an adult (looking to the future with two full grown teens/young adults)?

If you went with two studios, mom and dad would have to split up for the trip with one kid with one parent in each studio. A one bedroom villa with the sleeper chair would work though. AKV (not the value villas), BLT and OKW each have the twin sized sleeper chair in the one bedroom. AKV (Kidani Village only) and BLT have an extra bathroom in the one bedroom (and two bedroom).

My 20 year old daughter, who is about 5'6", slept in the twin pull out chair in a Tree House Villa without any problems and said it was really comfortable. I have a one bedroom at OKW booked for this July and not sure if one, two, or three of my 20+ children are coming but one will be using the chair if they all join me on the trip.:)

My 6'2" son has slept on the sleeper chair several times. Works great.

Oh definitely. My aunt, who is nearly 70, was very comfy on the one at OKW (it was her choice to sleep there, I promise!). She's around 5'5". My husband, who is not quite 6' but is not a small person, was comfy on the one at AKJambo 1 bedroom.

And with the pullout, the same aunt was comfy on it the night before she changed to the chair (can't remember why she changed), and on the next trip we took, my cousin and her husband were comfortable on it.

We are in a similar position (mine are 14 and 12) and we would not even consider a 1BR without the sleeper chair. Even OKW would be a stretch, as it only has one bath.

As for the 1BR+chair vs. 2BR, we really prefer the 2BR because there is always a place where night owls or early risers can go without disturbing everyone else.

Exactly! We have very rarely used the living room for sleeping arrangements in the 15+ years we have been DVC members. I think a studio is for families with young children, 1 bedrooms are for couples who like their space (like us). Two bedroom units are for larger families or groups of 4 adults, and the Grand villas are for anything over 4 people. We have two adult offspring, and on our trip next year at Christmas, we plan to get a GV so each gets their own room. Of course, the kicker is that we want that GV at AKV, and I don't have anywhere near enough points to get that. I'm thinking I'll reserve the GV at OKW at the 11 month mark and book one night in the AKV GV at 11 months. Then if I can add to the AKV-GV at 7 months I'll do that, but if it turns out one isn't available, I'll likely switch from the GV at OKW to a 2 bedroom at Kidani just so we can stay in a savanna view room for our DS who has not stayed there yet.
