I am sure this has been asked before so sorry as I am new to DVC.Currently have 160 pts @SSR Aug use year from DVC.If I were to purchase in resale market 100 pts @SSR with say a April use year how would it work for a reservation for say May 2010 for 224 pts @SSR?

It is generally best to purchase all of your contracts with the same UY. If you don't, you'll actually have two separate memberships to DVC, requiring you to transfer points from one to the other if you wish to combine them for reservations. Alternately, you could book a certain number of nights with one contract and a certain number with the other, and attempt to link those reservations, but you could not combine them for the same night. There are some people who do have multiple contracts with multiple UYs, but it's harder to manage, and has very few compelling advantages. There are plenty of SSR resales out there -- I'd keep looking for one with an August UY.

Would give you 2 separate contracts.

June xx 2009 would be your 11 month Home Resort booking window at SSR for reservation(s) beginning on May xx 2010 so you could book up to the number of nights 160 point contract would cover as one reservation and then have a second reservation you could book up to the number of nights 100 point contract would cover. It's not guaranteed but MS will do their best to link & note connection of these 2 reservations so you'd hopefully avoid having to switch villas.

Or you can transfer points from one contract to other and have one seamless reservation; just keep in mind that you are only permitted one transfer per account per Use Year so the transfer 'out' of points from 1 contract would be that account's one transfer option for that UY and the contract receiving points 'in' would be using its one transfer option for that UY as well. Transferred points must be current Use Year points ( they can't be points that have been either banked or borrowed) but once transferred you can bank them.

Also, keep in mind you will have 2 different Banking Deadlines - for August UY its March 31,
for April UY its November 30. If you do transfer points between contracts those transferred points retain their original Use Year should you wish to bank them.
