I ran Ad Aware on both my computers and it found lots of stuff to delete - but that stupid ad that keeps popping up as my homepage is still there - and it is still causing my CD ROM drive to pop open.

Am I doomed? :(

You need to go in and reset your homepage to what you want it to be.

Ad-Aware should have cleared out the bad registry entries and cookies, but it doesn't know what you want your homepage set to.

Post again with the name of the browser you use if you need help setting your home page. Okay?

Have you run a virus scan, using currently updated[/i[ definitions? Also, give http://spybot-spyware.com/ a try, similar to AdAware, but sometimes picks up some that is misses. Also, after doing all those, do a reboot.

If resetting the home page doesn't do it you may want to wait a few days and run adaware/spybot again. Sometimes it takes them a little bit to get the definitions for something new

You have been broswer hijacked.

Go to the Rewards board there is a thread called Bugs and Spys that will explain everything on how to get rid of the problem.

It's on a little sticky note on top of the Rewards board where its easy to found.

Sorry, but I have to giggle a little on this one. Some of the sites that everyone loves to go to and enter free drawings and get free merchandise and the lot are the ones that cause this kind of thing. I went to a few and they tried to futz with my system - didn't work. ;)

That is so true Jfulcer and what people have to realize is this stuff can do damage that can't be repaired with any of these tools. Sometimes you end up having to reload the computer.

But Al-l-l-e-x-x-x-x-x-x-x.... they are promised $50 in free money!! Are you insinuating that not every web site is honest?!? ;)

Hey Crissup, yeah, I've had my computer hijacked and taken hostage. I've got it back now though.

Yay!!!! Spyhunter saved the day!:bounce:

It found several nasty parasites and now they're gone. :D

Thanks Dan for the advice.:D
