Actual Camping

Obviously I'm desperately confused <IMG SRC="/infopop/emoticons/icon_confused.gif" alt="confused"> and if anyone could help me I would appreciate it a lot. I was under the impression for most my life that the campgrounds at WDW were meant for RVs and Motorhomes, but the impression I'm getting is that you can do actual tent camping at the campgrounds. If so do they have shower facilities, and can you build campfires to cook at your campsite? Okay I've got a million more questions, but I'll let these one's get out of the way first.

Fw is for all campers! Tents, popups, motorhomes, travel trailers. They have cabins and "home away from homes" to stay in also.

Yes, there are comfort stations (bathhouses) with A/C, showers, toliets, sinks, etc. Very clean and nice.

Oh yea....you can't really build a campfire at your site because they are the stand up BBQ grills.

Now....they have a camp fire sing along everynight. They have 2 fire pits and you can roast marshmellows, etc. And they have someone who sings songs and get's the crowd in on it too.

Then Chip and Dale come out so you can get your picture taken with them. And when that is all over...they have a Disney movie everynight. They have benches you can sit on...but you can also bring your own blanket or chairs. Very nice!

Here we go with the rest of the questions. Does FW participate in EE and E ride nights. Also is the parking at your campsite or is there an outside parking area? Third, what's the transportation like from FW to the parks? Fourth, what security precautions are taken at the campsites for when everyone is gone during the day? Okay, that's all I can think of for now, but I'm sure I'll come up with more.

I can answer a few questions!
FW is a Disney resort so you are entitled to all the perks of resort guests. EE & E-Night is available to FW guests. FW allows 1 vehicle per site, if you have more there is a main parking lot at the campground's entrance.
To get to MK you can take a boat from the FW marina. For EE at MK you need to take a bus to TTC and then the monorail. To go to Epcot & MGM you take a bus to TTC and transfer to the monorail(Epcot) or another bus(MGM). There is a direct bus to AK from FW. FW also has internal buses to get around the very large campground, or you can rent a golf cart or bring your bikes!
I can't answer the security questions from personal experience because we stay in a cabin, but from everything that has been posted on this board I feel that FW is a very safe place. Campers have posted that they leave items at their sites and have never had things stolen.

Hi, we stay at FW every year in the fall and love it. We have a popup trailer and find that there's more freedom than a hotel. The campfire program is a lot of fun and the transportation in and around FW is exceptional.

There are several different types of camping loops, Preferred, Standard and basic. Even though we don't need the sewerage hookup with our popup, we always get a preferrred site because it's closer to transportation. The preferred sites cost more, but for us it's worth the extra $$.

We camped at FW a number of times when our four kids were smaller, and the one thing I appreciated immensely that no one else has mentioned is the night sounds. Here in New England we have our peepers, but they're no competition for the little noise makers in FL. I used to love having them sing me to sleep....
