Just wanted to share what a wonderful act of kindness DCL contributed to .
As part of my job I do nursing home visits at a local nursing /rehab center. One day 2 months ago I visited there and it is usually a pretty depressing place to go. When I arrived there were Disney balloons , characters, posters and tons of Disney cheer. When I asked what was going on they informed me that members of the DCL staff flew up from Florida that morning with tons of gifts for all the residents. They put on a large scale show. They also granted about 20 of the residents wishes. These included new wardrobes, gift certificates for spa treatments, family photography sessions, nights out to local restuarants . When I visited the patients in each person room there were a variety of Disney sweatshirts, stuffed animals , tee shirts ect. The smiles and excitement from the residents was truely amazing. If fact I went back this week and the residents are still talking about their visits and gifts.
I know Disney does quite a bit for children , but the elderly tend to be a forgotten group in our society. I was truely touched that Disney thought enough about them. I do not mind at all paying a bit more for Disney cruises especially when I can see its charity at work. Any one have similar experiences? :cheer2:

Thats a great story! There is nothing like that Disney "Magic"! :cheer2: Keep up the good work Disney!!

What a wonderful thing to do! Thanks so much for passing on such a kind act. I knew I loved Disney for more than the cruise!

I will go to my grave believing that an act of kindness shown to me on the ship (which due to confidenitality, I can't describe), was due to a person known to lurk on these boards.

He/She is known as the "Disney Angel in Disguise".

He/She magically comes through for people who deserve it.

In the past, there have been families that had medical/family/illness issues (and even worse :sad2: ).

The DAID came to the rescue more times than can be counted.

I am not saying I deserved what they did for me. However, a few years back a Dis family was in a terrible way, an amazing human being who shall remain nameless (He Loves Verandahs) and I helped organize Dissers to show support to our fellow Dis Member family.

The OP and I were both given the exact same "kindness", separately, on our cruises.

There is A Disney Angel In Disguise.

I believe.

Jim

PS The Post office has real cool new Disney stamps.

I have a son and daughter in law that work for WDW and the cast members are always doing great things for lots of people on their own time. They have a large volunteer program with a huge response from their employees. You never hear of all the trips they make to nursing home, hospitals, our local kids cancer center and more, but these people are out every week somewhere doing wonderful things that never make the paper or the news, but they arnt doing it for the publicity, but because they love doing it. We all owe them a vote of thanks as well as others who volunteer their time for those of us less fortunate.

I could not agree with you more!

this is so great to hear about-my mother lives in a senior assisted living complex and I always marveled at the stunning large live floral arrangements in the entry area and the dineing room (live, every week different). I finaly commented to one of the staff about them and they explained that a volunteer group in the community went to each of the florists in the town every few days and were given the flowers they could no longer use in arrangements. the group then gathers weekly and makes these beautiful arrangements and delivers them to all the senior centers, senior housing, nursing homes, etc. what a cool way to volunteer :cheer2: !

as for the lurking disney angel-i so appreciate individuals who do acts of kindness privatly. we strive hard to teach our 2 children that the greatest way of doing an act of kindness is without accolades. we were very proud of them last year when their school held a tsunami fund raising drive with a pizza party as a "prize" for those who raised a set amount of money-both discussed it with us and declined to participate explaining to thier principal that they would support other tsunami relief efforts that allowed for anonomous charity without rewards.
