no one on this thread said walking on a paved path was hiking. I am frequently on trails in the woods. I wear boots and take my sticks, water, snacks, raincoat, etc. The hiking areas I go to in the eastern US are not ones I would call dangerous mountain trails. That does not mean it is not hiking.Maybe. I don't consider walking through the woods or on a paved path "hiking".
