I've been collecting things to entertain my kids on the plane. We have a portable DVD player, but even that will grow old on a 5 hour flight!

So far I have:

Disney themed tic tac toe
lacing cards
reusable sticker scenes (one pirate, one outer space)
crayons
small books
paper clips and a magnet
jump-the-peg game

I'm trying to keep everything small so they fit in this pouch. Each child has their own pouch. My DH thinks I always bring WAY too much stuff, but when I'm on a plane with kids for 5 hours, I want to be prepared. I would love to hear what other people bring.

I'll also have a baggie full of snacks in case all else fails!

Travel etch-a-sketch or magnadoodle were hits with my boys.

What ages are the kids--that might help people give other ideas?

Sounds like plenty. Last trip, he saw the tv in the seatback and that was all the entertainment needed. Never used the portable DVD player, colored or read just held a toy and watched a preview for a movie over and over.

New matchbox cars, Fast food kid toys that are new, small lego set, action figures that are popular right now, bag of plastic little figures (fireman, soldiers) from the dollar store. Just about any trinket that is new.
Didn't see a DS or hand held game (make sure you turn the sound off)

Don't forget to bring head phones for that DVD player!!!!

Forgot to add the most important thing is each kid has their own backpack for their toys-other than a couple new surprises you bring- and then they are responsible for picking things that will keep them entertained and carrying what they pick out!!! Really teaches them to make good choices.

I always love to bring the "color magic" markers from crayola as they don't mark anything but the special paper, one less thing to worry about while travaling :)

Deck of cards for old maid, crazy 8, Go Fish. Pictureka is a fun gard came. Markers and a pad, nintendo ds, ipod
Toysrus has those card games B1G1F this week
