I am in search of a inexpensive clear acrylic or plastic bubble dome (not sure which would be lighter in weight, in the vicinity of 24" give or take. I does not have to be very deep. I need it for a school project. Can anyone help? or at least direct me in the right direction. I'm all goggled out :confused3.

TIA

Playground supply store?

Some jungle gym structures have viewing bubbles about that size.

That was my original idea. Easier said than done. Well that is unless I can pay a pretty penny. It will be used as part of "Sea Life" bulletin board display in our elementary school. I volunteered but all expenses are mine. I also need to watch that it doesn't protrude too far out.

Oh boy! What did I get myself into? :confused3 :)

Depends on what you need it for . I made a dome out of a wire basic and pastic wrap froa school project one time... Just a suggestion

In that case, maybe you can try to do something like the Nemo ride at Disneyland...a few flat panel circles, like you're looking out of a submarine. You could use plastic wrap for that, like the PP said.

Or, you could make the shape be like looking out of goggles, like someone scuba diving or snorkeling.

Good luck!

Maybe try a restaurant supply store??

Good ideas!

Here's what I'm thinking. Looking into a aquarium or looking out a submarine is the concept I'm looking for (a dimensional effect).

You all have me thinking . Any more thoughts?

Security camera covers for ceilings. You can buy them from places that sell store fixtures or security cameras. These are going to cost a bit, however.

I did find a place that makes them for displays that are less pricey, though they are not perfectly round, they have corners. http://www.tgedisplayframes.com/pageDome.html

For a real budget solution, go to a bakery and ask to buy an unlabeled cake dome; it will probably cost about $1. Slice it off at the height you need for the projection. It's unlikely to be more than about 12" around, but it will be cheap.

Another good suggestion!

Great budget solution. I have seen those clear covers that you get when you order say a relish tray. I will check them out.

:)

Does this thread remind anyone else of the Simpson's Movie...?

Dome Depot!:rotfl:

I apologize for wasting everyone's time!

Dome Depot!

My search is over. The Dome Depot :) is closed. Didn't succeed with the dome as originally thought. Thanks to your suggestions I have narrowed it down to either using the clear pie covers for the porthole windows (3 or 4) of a sub with lots of visual in each window and if this doesn't work I have a piece of Plexiglas that DH will frame for me to look like a fish tank. Hopefully it will turn out like I have in my mind.

Thanks for all the ideas.

PS: Never saw The Simpsons but "Dome Depot" definately fit this thread.

Smiles all!
