Ack!! DD dropped plates on her big toe

We've been icing it for about 20 minutes, and I gave her some tylenol. It is very swollen, and bruised, esp under the nail. Hoping it's not broken

What would they do tonight, that can't wait till morning? I could take her to Urgent Care tonight, or to her Dr. in the AM.

I broke my big toe once by falling down the stairs. I did go to the Dr's to have it looked at, but all he did was tape it to the toe next to it. I would just wait because there isn't much they will do for it if it is broken.

If it is broken there isn't anything they will do unless it is displaced. The blood under the nail is actually of some concern. They may have to drain that (not pleasant, sorry). Prepare her that she will probably lose her toe nail.

DD14 broke her toe walking in the hallway at school a few weeks ago-ran into someone walking in front of her .

Well, I'm glad I didn't run right out to Urgent Care. She is now asleep in the recliner, with it elevated. i was prepared to give her some benedryl to help her sleep if need be

She will definitely lose the nail. Crazy thing is, she is used to that. Her toenail on the other big toe had a fungus a few years ago, and has never recovered. She now will have a matched set.

I still think it may be broken. It is terribly swollen, and purple purple purple. Will see how the night goes, and how she feels in the AM. I have a feeling as soon as she bears weight the tears may start again.

Look on the underside of her toe. Is there a definite line of bruising either within the rest of the bruise or on it's own-almost like someone drew it there? If so, 99% chance it is broken. That like might not show up until tomorrow. Not having it doesn't mean that it isn't broken though.

Purple underneath. That is what is leading to believe that it might be broken. The plates hit the top of her toe. I'm waiting on her to wake up. She slept w/ me last night, so she didn't have to climb up the ladder to her bunk. She cried like crazy when we walked to bed from the family room.

At some point in time I have broken almost every toe - they don't do anything for them anyway, most of the time dont even tape them together.
