Acer Laptop - need advice

My little brother is graduating from high school on May. Staples had a good deal on an acer laptop, so I bought it on Monday. Now I don't know what to do - I only have 14 days to return it, but graduation is over a month away. What if it doesn't work? I don't want to open it and set it up since it is a gift, but I don't know what to do. Is there any manufacturers warranty?

Since you bought it as a gift, does the 14day still apply? I would check with the store. Do you know anyone who is good with computers? Maybe have them check it out for you. We bought a cheap acer for our dd's the Christmas before last and love it. The only issue is the battery life, but that can be easily fixed.

Definitely check with store - some stores offer a gift receipt option. Just speak with the manager and make sure you get their name (especially if you call and speak with them over the phone).

I purchased an Acer Extensa laptop two years ago from Best Buy and love it. I use it for work and surfing and it has been a great machine. Also, still has good battery life.

the 14 days is only the return to the store window. The manufacture should have a 90 day or year warranty. I do not know for that computer. I buy a new computer every two years and have only had one that needed to be returned to the store and i did that because i did not want to deal with a repair shop. I would not worry about it. It is highly unlikely there is a problem with it. Nice present for him. A laptop is a must have in college now a days.

If it was a really good deal & you want to save it for his graduation, open it, and use it.. You can explain to him why it was opened. I did this with the lap tops that I purchased for Christmas back in Nov. It isn't like it isn't still "new", it is just checked out.. your brother will understand.

All Acers come with a warranty. How long depends on the model I think. We have bought several where I work and have never had a problem getting them fixed under warranty. We even had a DOA unit that they replaced under warranty faster than I think the reseller couold have swapped it out.

I'd worry more about him not needing it for some reason.

Bought an Acer laptop as a christmas gift for our 12yr old. It was less than $250 at Best Buy. They had the same return policy. Best Buy boots the computers they sell right in front of you so you can see they work. Have not had any issues with it so far and it has been used a lot. Definately worth the money.

We have had 2 acer netbooks and both have been lemons. I will Never buy another acer. I would seriously research that acer online for all possible complaints and then decide

I have had my acer notebook for almost two years now, in fact I am typing on it right now! My daughter got hers a week prior to mine and they have both been great. I'm very pleased, especially for the price!
