Accumulating Cash

I was referring more to not reporting cash transactions and not paying any taxes on those transactions at all, rather than managing timing and the timing of what year to honestly pay the appropriate taxes due.
But both impact taxes.

Might have been before the trend of rewards cards but I get WAY more value out of the rewards cards I have than the annual fees I pay.

For example one card with a $95 annual fee netted me nearly $10,000 in value.
My cards would net me $10,000 in value if I spent $334,000 on them But they ARE free cards. Retired and living on Social Security only, so that ain't happening.

And they gave you $10,000 in benefits?
The saga is detailed in this thread.

Sadly the loophole closed not long after I got the value.

I don't do cash anymore save for a few £1 coins for green fees for my club. I have a few current accounts, so if one is frozen due to fraud, I can rely on the others. We don't have hurricanes, earthquakes or tsunamis so no emergency kits to take into account.

I would be suspicious of a company preferring cash payments that they were keeping shady books. And if they'll cheat on bookkeeping, what will they cheat on on my job.

And dh is an auditor. He would be suspicious, too, and would decline to do business with them as it could come back to affect dh's own employment.

my father passed in 1981. he NEVER trusted 'banks' and would use savings and loans exclusivly. his basis for mistrust-he was a young adult when the stock market crashed in 1929 and saw the difference between what happened with the s&l's vs. the banks. it was ingrained in him that banks were cold hearted buisnesses while s&l's had some kind of community connection. he knew chapter and verse how banking regulations and safeguards had been instituted since then but he just could not shake what he had witnessed first hand.

When I was around 10 years old I was riding in the car with my father, and he pointed out a man walking along the side of the road. He said the man walked to the bank every day to make sure that it was still open for business.

Easy-Peasy, need cash just go to Bank DW. Been working for 52 years plus side benefits. :duck:
I think my husband may bank at one of those branches ha ha I’m not sure he signed a mortgage application, tax return or anything else in 30 years! He does know where our two local bank branches are though cause I’ve had to send him there once or twice! I keep a cheat sheet in our lock box of the credit cards, and the banking, and other investment accounts the sign in the password in case I disappear off the face of the Earth tomorrow he can figure out where all the monies at.
