Accomodation within Disney

Hi fellow Canadians,

I'm new here and maybe there are posts about this already but I'll pop the question anyways :)

We want to stay at a DVC resort next February, but just in case it doesn't work out, what other hotels within Disney do you recommend? We're even thinking about renting a house outside disney, but we have 3 small children in our group (7, 3 and 2) and I thought that it might be too much of a hassle if our accomodation is outside disney.

Thoughts?

You could stay at the ASMU suites or get connecting value rooms. We are a family of five and stayed at POR and loved it!

You don't say how many people you have total......

We really like all the DVC resorts - only ones we haven't stayed at are Beach club and AKLV - Saratoga is right near Downtown Disney, Old key west was a bit out of the way. We loved the Boardwalk since it's right in the middle of Epcot and MGM and Wilderness lodge is just a hop, skip and jump from the magic kingdom.

If you want a non DVC resort the moderates are nice - Port Orleans has rooms that will sleep 5 and Coronado has a great pool area and the best counter service on property IMO. All Stars have family suites but I'm not a big fan of the value's so can't help much with them.

I would vote to stay onsite too - I don't think I would want to do Disney from an off site hotel - there's so much to see and do that staying right in the middle of the action makes it worth the extra money you spend.

Welcome to the Dis!!

hey Dreamer... are you looking into renting DVC from an owner or from Disney? From an owner is much more reasonable. See the DVC Rent/Trade board here if you haven't already.

Cheers

That is what we did and saved 800 dollars.

Thanks everyone for your input. Yes, I'm looking at renting DVC points from owners. I've been looking at the DVC rent/trade board, trying to figure out how to do this and who to deal with. I hope there are Canadians renting out points in there.

We have 5 adults and 3 children in our group so maybe we'll rent 2 studios. I'm so convinced now to stay onsite :)

You should also consider a two bedroom unit in lieu of two studios. Although it costs a little bit more in terms of points (and likely in terms of dollars as a result), you would get a full kitchen and insuite laundry. The studios have a microwave, a sink and a small fridge.

I would second that. In reading your post, I was thinking 2 studios might be a little tight with 5 adults plus kids. I feel that Studio is JUST big enough for 3-4 nights are less for 2 adult and 2 kids MAX. 3 Adults and 1 Kid would be squishy!!

Dh and I are staying in a studio in April. When we buy it is most likely SSR we will always stay in a 2 bedrrom for our family of five. We are tired of cramming into a hotel room and being able to spread out will be a welcome break. In the end renting a 2 bedroom on some one elses points is still cheaper than staying at a deluxe and much roomier!

Thanks all for your recommendations. I haven't stayed at any of the DVC resorts and no idea as to the size, although the DVC website has the sizes, it's difficult to visualize in terms of sq footage...good thing the experts and veterans are here ;) ...will surely think about renting a 2 BR vs studio.

Onmedic, I sent you an email.

Stayed at Summer Bay thru Skyauction once and it was great. Didn't do allot of park-hopping but I would go back if I didn't want to spend all my time at WDW.
